Wow. Never heard of a sunroof shattering. I recall a couple of people having back windows go in the summer heat, but that was when I was a kid.

Best of luck with that!

Well that is odd. I know years ago we got a huge crack appear in our Jeep's windshield when it was -40 outside and my wife had the temperature inside turned up to blast furnace levels.

Were you using the ejection seat option?

GM better cover. I have limited glass coverage. Not only does this exclude the windshield but also the sunroof...

Hope you get it covered by I don't know why they would.  If some customer came back to us and said their sunroof just shattered without cause I'd say come on; something struck it.

I've gone up to our local auto body to look at customer wrecks and despite roll overs and really bent to hell cars the sunroof is always intact.

Yeah it wasn't just a crack. It was completely shattered. Poking around the net it seems that tempered glass can do that..It wasn't a flying stone, I was pulling out of as parking lot into rush hour traffic doing about 5 km/h.

In doing research before I bought the SRX I found a few accounts of this happening to the big "panavision" sunroofs on the early models. They would just spontaneously shatter.  I'm not sure if GM ever acknowledged it as a problem.

I also have heard of this happening on other makes. A total shattering of the glass sunroofs. As to coverage by GM, given the age of your car I doubt if GM would cover except as a gesture of "goodwill'. Be prepared for the worst, then if by some slim chance, GM does cover, you will be so pleased... ;) ;)

AFAIK tempered glass always shatters that way, at least there are no large shards to cause major injuries.

When you were pulling out of the lot was the pavement very uneven?  A friend told me of shattering one side of a T-roof in a Camaro like that years ago.

About 15 years ago I had a similar thing happen to my '87 Nissan Pathfinder. It had been parked in the driveway overnight, and when I opened the door in the morning I was greeted with an interior full of shattered glass and an open hole in the roof.

At first I thought someone must have broken in overnight, but the doors were still locked, no other windows had been touched and nothing inside had been disturbed. In the end, I figured it had just happened on its own - maybe from a sudden change in temperature and a pre-existing rock chip I hadn't noticed.

Hopefully yours won't cost too much to replace - I'd be very surprised if GM steps up to cover the cost. :censor: happens - especially with glass.

I didn't like the sound of "we will have to order the whole casette...". If GM doesn't cover it I will perhaps make an insurance claim. Don't know if that will go anywhere or not. Since I was pulling out of a parking lot into rush hour traffic inching along at maybe 5 km/h there is no way it was a flying rock. Perhaps I got nailed with a BB gun shot? Who knows? Vandalism?
