what tire and rim should I get?
« on: March 17, 2011, 02:19:23 pm »
I have an 08 WRX.
I need new tires and I was thinking about getting new rims as well.
I'm thinking about getting XXR - 518, anyone have any advice for or against these.

Thinking about pairing them with General Exclaim UHP tires. 225/45R17, also and recommendations.

In a world where the dead are returning to life, the word "trouble" loses much of its meaning.

Yes - those are a knock off of the Prodrive GT2s. I would go with those (Prodrive) as they're hub-centric and literally designed for the WRX.

I would also suggest stepping up to 18s IF you're buying new rims. That's just my opinion of course. I've been very happy stepping up to my 18 inch Prodrive GT1s.

2 many pot holes on my daily commute for 18s. I've already had to fix a crack in my OEMs

Wheels are a personal choice. They are not my thing but if they fit and you like them  $140 a pop for wheels that weight 19 lbs sounds just fine to me.

I had the General Exclaim UHP amd they were OK. I think you can get a newer better tire for the same price..especially if you go with summers vs All Seasons. The Gernearls are sold practically everywhere including crappy tire. So if you get them shop the price HARD.

With the daollar at par you owe it to yourself to check out tire rack.

For tires I ended up getting  Ventus V12 evo on sale for $125.95 ea @ http://www.tiretrends.com/catalog2.php3?tireID=855

I'm not sure what to do about the rims yet.

I've seen Enkei PF01 (~17lbs) wheels on Subarus.  They're a lightweight and durable racing wheel.  Great bang for the buck.

I will second RR, and say that the Enkei racing line is a great bang for the buck for Subies. Also, Tirerack (and msot other online retailers) carry them.

Agreed, I'd bet those look very sharp on the WRX.

I'm also a fan of the O.Z. Ultraleggera which I think are comparable to the Enkei in terms of price and weight.

Entire wheel/tire thread and not a single mention of Hercules? You guys are slipping!

First. What color is your car?

Red with tinted windows and soon to be smoked tails so I want to keep with the dark tones. My budget is flexible but I don't see the point in paying more then I need to on name brands. I was in the 800 ball park and I can do a boarder pick up from Ottawa so that opens things up for me.

My preference is the last one.  In a dark colour it would look bada$$ on a red WRX.

I also agree on the last one....would look hot on red.

I'm also a fan of black wheels! ;-)

My least favorite is the middle set with the red pinstripe.

No silver then. I'd go with the black one (2nd) with pinstripe.
