Mine are H5s.  I've changed both sides twice already.  From my recollection they burn out between 56000km-70000km. I'm at 182000 km so if it's on schedule, I will be replacing the front bulbs in the next 10k. Should be summer by then and much more comfortable to change.

The GE bulbs last about 10k kms more than the dealership bulbs.

183900km my driver front blew....... time to go out and replace....

Right on schedule.  ;D

Our Forester had a headlight bulb wire short which caused the bulb to overheat and fail. Brighter replacement bulbs can run hotter which can exasperate the problem. Repeated bulb replacement can also further damage the wires.

Yep, unfortunately so true.

Time to change professions. We know where the jobs will be at since VW is increasing their sales.

Is this a VW thing or what is going on exactly? So far I've had no bulbs go on my Corolla and my parents Accord is about 9 months older than my car and it also has had exactly no lights go. The Corolla is my first car that I had to worry about so... am I on borrowed time or what?

Most definitely a VW thing.

Pay attention to how many VWs you see with burnt out bulbs...tailights, headlights, you name it...

Although, lately I have been seeing other brands driving around trying to imitate VW with burned out lights.  Very annoying following someone with no working brake lights.  They should replace Drive Clean with mandatory vehicle inspections like in NB.
