2011 ALMS Season
« on: February 21, 2011, 11:51:30 am »
I got myself all excited in the Daytona thread.

With Sebring less than a month away I'll start this thread to track the season. I'm sure there will be tumbleweeds here as motor sport takes a back seat to dash-stroking and fuel-economy orgasms on this forum.

Nevertheless, Corvette racing runs a nice online television program chronicling the ALMS season. Here's episode 1 for 2011:

Exciting thing is that the paddle-shift will most likely trickle down to the C7 model line-up....early rumors being a 7-speed set-up.

For those who don't know, this is how the season ended last year. The best 10 minutes of racing you'll see:

The GT2 lineup is insanely competitive and this year should be epic!

Will this stop you breaking another gearbox?  :rofl2:

That clip is ace.  There is just nothing like being on the Mulsanne straight at 1am drinking beer as the cars go past at insane speeds...

If I have no wedding or something out-of-my-hands  I'm there (I should actually inquire with my boss/administrator (IE my wife).

I invited you to a race BEFORE someone invited you to a wedding.  My invite gets preference, no??

Uh-huh....whatever you say....... :stick:

Does this mean we officially know who wears the pants around your place?   :rofl2:

Since you canceled on a race last year for a wedding, I think the inverse should happen this year.  Cancel wedding plans for ALMS.  It's only fair...a little give and take...

Or we go to Mosport?

Not the same, IMO.  Mid-Ohio is one of those classic US tracks.  Cut right out of (it seems) a farmer's field.  There's just something about the place....

I love Mosport, has just as much history as Mid Ohio IMO.  I'll be at Mosport for ALMS this summer for sure.  Can't miss it.

Mosport definitely works the best for me in terms of distance and the date.

With Sebring just days away, I had a look at live TV coverage. Expecting to find NASCAB qualifying or something eating into the 12-13 hours of TV coverage.

Imagine the surprise when we have something much more to complain about. There is NO live coverage in Canada, at all! None! How does Don Panoz expect to get spectators for Mosport if nobody can follow the series in this country! Or is he going to cancel that race up here too!

I know - I saw that too. All they have is web-tv coverage. It's split on ESPN and NBC (I believe) in the States.

According to this (which by the way is a "must bookmark" for us), there's only a highlight segment on ABC at 12:30 the following day;

http://www.racefantv.com/CDNTV.htm

Its hard to say by looking at the ALMS site what will be available online, and how to access it is even more unclear.
