The two car draft thing was a bit boring honestly last night.  But it seems to be much safer for the drivers.  Once 43 cars are out there, it may get more entertaining.

Good on Waltrip coming 3rd in his qualifier in that old #15

olde #15......so they have raised the age of consent in the South..... :nono: :light: >:D

.....

Really?    I think it allows for a lot more passing...the speed differential it creates are pretty big.

It sure is different than the pack racing though.  I saw a clip of the truck race tonight where "the big one"  ;) took out virtually the whole field.
If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.

So NASCAR has now become the official "Pairs Competition" . The dating game on wheels or who do you like and who wants me today!

The pairings should/would likely be done by cars from the same team, but that assumes both are equal and not many have been lately. Still it will be a different race as has been proven so far - Fords have cooler heads....couldn't resist - my bad.

I though last night's truck race was more interesting than Thursday's 150s.

I was listening more than watching what seemed to be a pretty good race.

The 21 Ford was pretty fast for the whole day...so it's nice to see that this race wasn't won by "fluke".  David Ragan perhaps had his emotions get the best of him on the last lap...he was black flagged for changing lanes (as the leader) before reaching the stripe.

Lots of significance here:

- A return to victory lane for the historic Wood Brothers that not only were NASCAR pioneers, but have a link with Jim Clark and Indy
- Winner Trevor Bayne is the youngest winner of the Daytona 500 by a whopping 5 years - he was 20 yesterday (J Gordon was 25)
- The car was painted in the retro paint scheme that took David Pearson to victory lane in the Daytona 500 35 years ago
- And for those into some kind of numerology...the sum of the two numbers of the winning car 21 equals....3...on the 10th anniversary of the passing of Dale Earnhardt

watched it on and off........I seemed to pick the "Pace car out" moments ..How many were there 20!!!......the Pairs skating on new tarmac thing looked kind of weird...why not give 'em a trailer hitch duos by random draw ..hi lites were the crashes caused often by the trailee bumpin' into his buddys TAIL_END. and PIN BALL Wizardry ensued... :drive2:....stupid NON racing! really.....more like bumper cars @200mph.....daft when ya think about it............. ??? :light: :light: :banghead:

I didn't mean to dis anyone who likes NASCAR.  I happen to like F1, I'm sure there's lots of people out there that don't.

I was just being a smarta$$....   ;D

F1 isn't racing.  It's more of a parade of fast cars.  ;D You do know there were only 4 passes for the lead for the WHOLE year in F1, eh?
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

I watched it on and off yesterday. I try but can never really get into NASCAR. I do enjoy cheering on Ron Fellows when they hit the road courses - I watch all of those ones.

Other than the technology showcase, F1 is terribly boring. I haven't really enjoyed it since the Villeneuve Championship year.

I'm pretty much just a huge ALMS fan. I cannot wait for Sebring in March. The GT2 class is stacked this year and there should be some epic racing!

Oh I know.  I love F1, but I'll be the first one to admin that some races are more like glorified parade laps at speed.  The sound of the SLS safety car tho....Ohhh that sounds nice!

I didn't watch Daytona yesterday.  But from what I read this morning it sounds like it was a good one.  Good on the winner, 20 years old, good for him!  I meant to watch some of it because of it being the 10 anniversary of Earnhardt's death.  I did watch that one.

If we plan in advance, I'm there!

Actually - not to get off topic but tell me this GT2 finish from last year isn't the best 10 minutes of racing you've seen (at least for a while)

Should make for a great rivalry this year........sorry, now back to NASCAR  :D

Too many caution periods, had me dozing off in a few spots.  I don't like the pairs racing.  I'm certainly very happy for the Wood Bros, though, and they know how to pick good drivers.
