ALLEN JOHNSON CRACKS 6.50 BARRIER
Written by Competitionplus    Tuesday, 08 February 2011 11:45

Allen Johnson, owner/driver of the Mopar Dodge Avenger, in the NHRA Pro Stock class, cracked the 6.50 second barrier this morning while testing at Bradenton Motorsports Park. Johnson turned on the lights with a stunning 6.498 second pass at 213.06 miles per hour.

“It was pretty awesome and we actually left a little on the table; slipped the clutch too much,” Johnson confirmed, when asked what a 6.498 second run felt like.

Johnson stated the adjusted altitude for his memorable run was a just a little over sea level.

“I read the graph when we got back and that told me loud and clear,” Johnson continued.

Johnson confirmed his incremental clocking were .963 [60-foot], 2.715 [330-foot] and 4.179, 168.47 mph to the eighth-mile.

The veteran Mopar driver believes the car actually had .01 of a second to play with on the run. Johnson tried to turn the car around quickly in an attempt to further his historic effort but failed miserably when he said the team slipped the clutch too much.

“The conditions are changing quickly,” confirmed Johnson.

But for now, Johnson said these runs provides the team with plenty of motivation to challenge for the title in 2011. He credits his new Dodge Avenger from RJ Race Cars for making the difference.

“I think we have a car now that isn’t going to be so darn finicky,” Johnson admitted. “I feel like the new chassis is going to be forgiving. It may not be as fast on the great, great runs as the other one, but it will have a larger window and be more forgiving.

“This does a lot for our motivation.”

Is Allen related to all the other Johnson's in the Pro Stock division (Warren, Kurt)?

And was this the same Johnson who was DQed last year for having alcohol on his breath during a race?

FWIW, the Pro Stock boys have to row their own gears.

And if you ever get a chance, you really need to check out an NHRA race.  The sound is one of the most un-godly things you're likely to hear!!  Makes an air show with fighter jets sound church quiet in comparison...
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

Allen Johnson is not related to Warren/Kurt Johnson.

I don't know if Allen had "alcohol on his breath", but he did serve a one race suspension for registering .027 on the alcohol breath analyzer on a Saturday morning drug and alcohol test. NHRA has a zero-tolerance policy with regard to alcohol. Any driver or official discovered to have a measurable blood alcohol content during racetrack activities shall be immediately barred from any further involvement or participation in the event.

0.027...that's nothin!  NASCAR Nationwide guy Michael Annett was reported to blow 0.32!!!

http://nationwide.nascar.com/nationwide-series/news/110207/mannett-dwi-arrest

A police offer was on the radio offering the opinion that being able to blow that high is a signal of serious problems.  0.40 is the accepted LD50 amount...where 50% of the people would be expected to die!  Yikes!
