2012 Subaru Impreza - Official Pics Finally (Page 2)
« on: February 08, 2011, 02:15:01 pm »
So reports started surfacing today that the Impreza concept shown in LA will may be on sale (toned down) this August as the 2012 Subaru Impreza.  It will may debut at the New York Autoshow.  Seems crazy to bring the new model out after just releasing the Sedan STi and Widebody WRX this past summer.  Although the last total refresh was 2008, and Japanese cars see a redesing every 5 years or so.

While updating the looks is always nice, I'd like to see the new Impreza work on improving the interiors (and sound systems) across the board. Most importantly I'd like to see Subaru address the handling in the WRX and STi and at least offer the option to go with more of a hardcore setup...maybe a spec c for the NA market. I'd also like to see some better seats (IE JDM and Euro markets have them) and the WRX needs better brakes. They're satisfactory on the street but you run the risk of dying (seriously) if you take the WRX to the track without upgrading the fluid and pads.

I think current power levels are fine in the WRX and STi...especially with the high potential through modding.

I hear you on the brakes and stereo.  I smoked my brakes in no time at the track.  I could use a better seat too.  If these are addressed and they keep a hatchback WRX/STI, I am in again!

I mean, just about everything that's a "shortcoming" can very easily and fairly cheaply be rectified through the aftermarket on the WRX. Some bolt-ons, an AP, and some sways and you all of a sudden have a beast.

The point, however, is that not everyone (indeed most) is willing to mod their car and for what's essentially 40K here in Canada it's arguable that we should expect more.

I'll be doing a year-review on the WRX in April and will discuss those feelings more at that time. I do absolutely love my car (and the process of modding it), however.

My car turns 1 in April too  :D  We might need to have a WRX birthday party at a nearby track  ;)

The stereo in my Forester would have been awesome in 1970.  Too bad the car is a 2001.  Too bad their sound systems have not progressed much since 2001.
No place I'd rather be...

My main (pretty much only gripe) about the current Impreza is the cheap interior - it pales in comparison to the Golf/GTi - and you cannot replace or 'rectify' that through the aftermarket unfortunately.

BOOOOO  :'(  What happened to the swoopy concept?

Anyway, the new sedan and wagon (yes, they seem to be calling it a wagon again) will be at the New York autoshow.

From the profile it looks like a mainstream commuter car (e.g. Corolla, Cruze), which from the business point of view I think it's a smart move for Subaru; no more quirky looks, plus bland sells much, much better than quirky.

I see they'll add a 2.0L engine for NA (join the 40 mpg race), plus I believe the auto option will be in fact a CVT. Now, remove the AWD (make it optional) and we've got ourselves a new "Corolla", while Subaru is busy counting the boat loads of new found cash.

Mitsubishi is up next! Oh, wait… they’ve already done it.

I agree with everything above. But I doubt NA will ever see a spec c unfortunately.  No if only Litchfield's were sold over here...

Can't tell anything from this and I'm only interested what the new WRX and STi will look like. The base model looks boring/terrible as it is now anyway.

I thought the concept car looked fantastic, with no need to tone it down, ie; looked like ready for production on the outside. But that brown thing in the picture above, like just another family car. Its OK, but a disappointing change to me.

i couldn't agree more!!   what a let down.   the concept was very sharp (some of the styling reminded me of the ft-86.)   and they totally "committeed" it into the ground.

Shrunken Legacy with a side of Yaris and Focus

Although I think they can make one mean looking WRX/STI considering the headlights already look pissed off.
