Nissan Versa
« on: January 22, 2011, 04:34:18 pm »
I am looking to get rid of my V6 Ford Ranger for a small car that is good on gas. I was looking at a 2007 Nissan Versa S Hatchback 1.8, manual transmission.  Anyone in the forum own this car and care to share any feedback. Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

My parents have had a CVT SL since the Versa first came out. Still impressed with its quietness, comfortable front seats, huge back seat, the general solid-feeling of the car (big contrast to the tinny Multi they had before).

No problems at all, as far as I know.

I don't personally own one, but one of my close friends purchased an 07 brand new and has had zero issues with it.  He purchased the 6MT with it and it's actually a fun little car to drive.  LOTS of cargo room and head room to be had in it.

I've got an '08 Versa S with the value option package and AT that I bought new in the fall of '07. (I had to get the AT because my wife's been having problems with her knees and can't handle clutch pedals anymore :'()

It's been a great car, I haven't had a single problem with it so far. The seats are way more comfortable than any other small car I've tried and there's loads of cargo room, tons of headroom front and back as well. The quality of the materials inside the car is very good and the car is still solid as a rock, no squeaks or rattles at all, even in the cold of winter. It has a very nice if conservative interior and the controls and switchgear have a hefty, positive feel to them.  Build quality is good overall, but I have noticed that the Versa's body gaps are a bit wider than you would find on a Honda for example. Except for a couple of small dings, my Versa still looks like new.

What I like most about the Versa is that it doesn't feel or drive like a small, cheap car. The relatively high seating position means you're not looking up at the traffic around you all the time and also makes for very easy ingress and egress, a huge plus if you carry elderly or disabled passengers very often like I do. My only real complaints about the interior are the lame base stereo and the power mirror controls which should be on the door armrest rather than the dash. The stereo's an easy fix, though.

The Versa's admittedly not as much fun to drive as a Honda Fit but it's a lot more comfortable, especially if you're in the back seat. Our Versa's done everything we've expected of it and more, including carrying loads of my daughter's stuff when she moved a few weeks ago. It's a pretty hard vehicle to beat for the price IMO.

My son has an 08 with 120,000km, trust me my son is the enemy of any car and this thing has been rock solid with 0 defects.  First brake job 3 weeks ago.  This little car is the most comfortable bar none, a solid winner for Nissan.

I'm always amazed at how Nissan did such a great job the Versa and yet produced such a mediocre car in the Sentra.  ???

:iagree: A source of puzzlement for me as well. The Sentra didn't even get a sideways glance from us when we were car shopping.

We bought a brand new Versa recently. It had a dreadful rattle on the centre console from new, and numerous rattles appeared in the first couple of weeks. My wife chose the car (she drives it 99% of the time) but I don't find it at all comfortable. I have a bum back so I suffer in 90% of the cars out there! Especially asian cars. It is efficient and is a great little city car. Easy to drive, easy to park. The SL has a decent feature set though I miss the temperature gauge. We love the extra room in the back seat for our 4.5 year old, which is why we chose it over other cars. My Sentra was the same - rattly but reliable. So I'm expecting the same from the Versa. I don't love it but my wife does. If you find it comfortable then I would recommend it. :)

Awesome responses, very much appreciated. I will test drive on this week. One other questions is there a big difference in gas mileage and handling between a manual and automatic?

Not sure about the mileage difference, but I find the CVT SL to be quite nippy. It has a fairly lengthy stance so it seems to turn on a dime.

The AT's not bad either. It's pretty responsive and the shifts are quite smooth, better actually than the late-model Corolla I drove recently in this regard. Your mileage may vary of course, but I've managed 6.2L per 100km's with this tranny on the highway and get a consistent 9 - 9.5 in town.

The Versa's really nimble in city traffic, about what you'd expect for a car of this size. Where it shines though is in it's outstanding visibility, due to it's large windows and over-sized rear-view mirrors, which are heated. I applaud Nissan for including this feature, something that really should be mandatory in this country.

The car's pretty good on the highway too. There's no excess of power, but it handles passing and steep mountain grades in decent fashion and it's quiet enough inside that you can carry on a conversation without raising your voice. Pop in a decent stereo and there's no reason you can't drive all day in this car without any trouble at all.

My brother and sister-in-law own a 2008 Versa SL 6 spd and it's been trouble-free.  They're very happy with it.

Thankyou all for the great info and posts. There a couple of used in my town:

(1) 2007 Nissan Versa 1.8 S 6sp Hatchback

$9,998 + Sales Taxes.
4 door Hatchback
1.8Transmission Manual
Kilometres 54,321

(2) 2007 Nissan Versa S Hatchback Hatchback

$9,498 + Sales Taxes.
4 door Hatchback
1.8Transmission Manual
Kilometres 68,295

I have been appraised trade in value for my truck of $4000, so the total price after this with maybe some more of the sticker price of car may be workable.

That seems a bit high. We have a pair of 2009 models instock for $11,900 with auto trans. http://www.imagehonda.com/used-inventory/index.htm?SByear=clear&SBmake=Nissan&SBmodel=clear&SBbodystyle=clear&SBprice=clear

might be different package. I just delivered one today and it seems like a really nice car.
