It's funny, I want to like the new Fords. They're great on paper and Ford is building a really good rep for reliability but there is just something about them that makes me say "meh". I went to test drive a MKX last Fall and when I got in I took one look at the interior/dash etc and told the salesman "forget it , I won't waste your time or mine" ....never even got as far as starting the engine. I haven't looked at the new Explorers yet but i suspect the outcome might be the same.I guess I'm kind of out of touch when it comes to interiors. I like wood trim, soft touch textured surfaces and tan/beige leather...... not a lot of silver plastic or brushed chrome looking trim. I also want a car that gives me some colour choices other than black, grey or silver.

I can only assume that the same is true for the MKX, but can't say from personal experience.
Volvo seems to have got their act together in the reliability dept. CR gave the early years of the XC90 lots of the dreaded black circles for reliability but for the last few years they've rated them as "much above average"
Why don't you pick up a X5 from the states? Built in the US so you don't have to pay duties and the dollar is at par. My friend bought his from bavarian motorworks in michigan. They did all the paperwork.
If you happen to go shopping south of the border, take a look at www.cars.com. I used that website for car shopping when I purchased my S2000 from the States. I just plugged in the bangor zip code and chose the radius that I was willing to travel to purchase my S2000. Good luck with everything.

Also, while I liked the X5 I test drove, the whole I Drive thing has me a little spooked. I'm still finding some of the controls on the Mini Cooper frustrating and annoying and it's far less "Hi-Tech". I guess I'm a bit of a Luddite as I really prefer knobs and switches to scrolling through menus. (That may also be a strike against Ford/Lincoln with this Sync thing )

After your earlier post I went to the Ford site and the new interiors look OK to me. How complicated is this system if all you want to do is adjust the HVAC system or change the station on the radio?

Mazda CX-9 or Honda Pilot.
Thanks, I may take you up on that if I get serious about a Ford. I think I will go into Downey's this week and have a look. I actually find that interior quite nice. Do they come in beige or tan?
