Still made in Sweden by Swedes.. Who cares who owns the company?  :P

Korean or Japanese luxury must be 'Da Bomb compared to Chinese luxury.

The S60 got great reviews during the MotorTrend COTY review...they said it handles wonderfully.  Oh...it's on the S80 platform by the way...another triumph of development over "on paper" performance.
If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.

Chinese luxury is fine, except you find yourself hungry for more an hour later... ;)

It takes me forever to decide on the next vehicle to get so I've started thinking about a replacement for my 08TL when the lease comes due.  (May 2012).  Yep I'm looking already.

I have no idea what to get as a replacement.  The current generation Acura designs are BUTT UGLY (no offense if anyone here has one).  The only one'd I'd consider is the TSX and RDX but I'm leaning more towards 'No'.  So that means venturing to non Honda territory for the first time in 9 years (once lease is up).  So... here's the criteria and likes.

- I loved seeing the smaller premium brands that are available in Europe but not here.  I'm hoping to get something a little smaller.  I don't want to sacrifice luxury or technology for fuel economy and size.

- Should be 4 doors BUT not closed to a coupe so long as the backseat has enough room for 2 adults to sit comfortably.

- Price wise... no more than 40K and even that's pushing it.  I'm happy with my current lease payments being $529 a month all in.

- Can not be BMW or Mercedes.

- Navigation system is a must.

- Not too boring looking.  I like the design of the new Hyundai Sonata but am weary about buying Hyundai.
- A small crossover?

Happy suggesting!

Your time line would be good for some new Ford products in the pipeline

New Focus ST

I would mention the next Mondeo/Fusion car but this is basically in the same size category as your TL, and you say you want to downsize but not down grade. So I suggest to look at the new Focus sedan Titanium spec car, it has features more in tune with what you find in the E class luxury segment.
Also by this time frame it should be available with this new sweet 1.6L Turbo EcoBoost powertrain in North America.
The reviews so far from Europe regarding the suspension have been praising the new set up for not giving up the great sporty fun experience from the current Euro Focus and also adding in a very refined feeling set up , a more grown up ride as many have commented.

Video demo of the Nav system and MyFord Touch features in the new Focus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVj6vFrCm4k&feature=player_embedded

A Q/A video demo of the MYFord Touch in the new Focus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoJTFQ0i30g&feature=related

Very impressive car with the smaller foot print you are looking for, without giving up the premium aspects you are used to in the TL, + some added features not available as I mentioned in many of the entry luxury segment.
The new Focus is worth a try if you can get your mind past the badge

If you want to impress, why not consider a Cadillac STS?

Sure, it's a car for old people...but damn, it's a comfy driver. (I don't own one but DID test drive a CTS-V once --- that's a whole different story !!)

Went to auto show today and I think  I've narrowed it down to what I like and will consider.

Acura TL (Now that it's had a rhinoplasty for 2012)
Audi A4
Audi A5 (maybe....)
Buick Verano (maybe again... couldn't see it up close)
Volkswagon Passat CC
Volvo S60
Jaguar XF (Sat in it and was exquisite)

So it<s agreed then we can through out this set of criteria...

The Volvo S60 and the Verano actually fit all of those.  S60 starts just shy of  40K.  Verano is expected to be in the 30's.

That's quite a price spread.  If I could swing a Jaguar XF, I wouldn't be giving the Verano a second thought.

The S60 has received some glowing handling reviews...and I like the look of them...especially in red.

If I had to have an auto though, I really, really like the 2011 Charger.

- R/T with the 5.7 Hemi
- AWD
- Great looking exterior (IMO of course)
- Very nice interior...in red no less!

Overall, lots of character in that thing...for $44,000.

I can only read the word in Clarkson's voice. Looks like mmret suffers the same affliction!  ;D

Speaking of which:

Low mileage too!

Buy it now for only $30k! ;D

The Jaguar would absolutely be a splurge purchase...  It's also probably unlikely. :(

Hey Saf.... you want to buy a house in Toronto?  I can get you one similar to the one I sold last week for a cool 1.5 million. ;) ;) ;)

Geez Wet One - you're rich. If you can't do German as in BMW or M-B why not head over the pond to England and hook up with a gently used Bentley. Most people don't or won't know that it is a VW and you will have a ton of room to impress. And since you also quit smoking, you have tons of disposable cash.
