Until I bust out my secret weapon.......the plow!

  This reminds me of the time my buddy tied an old door to the front of his Dodge Ram as a makeshift plow.  Yeah, it didn't work so great.  ;D

Been here about six months ago. For the Santa Fe look for the 3.3l V6; more sophisticated than the 2.7l, so much more power & torque for the same economy. For the Outlander (which on paper was my favourite choice) the I4 is only available in the base model which ruled it out for us, I wanted the mid range with the third row seats. The V6 is a very nice drive; a touch raucous but that matches its sporty character.

Neither matched our needs at the end of the day but I think the Outlander would have done the job.

Katana, the Santa Fe's 3.3 and 2.7l engines have been replaced for 2010 by a base 2.4l 4 cyl. and 3.5l V6.

If the OP is considering the Sportage and the Santa Fe, the Tucson and Sorento should also be on his shopping list.

Sportage and Tucson being compacts and Sorento/Santa Fe are (small) midsize.

Santa Fe now has a 4 cyl. AWD version added for 2011 but at very close to 4000 lbs, I'd opt for the V6 or the smaller and lighter Tucson with the 4 if he can live with the smaller cargo space.

The 3.5 in my FWD Fe is much more power than I need but it doesn't need a lot of revs in normal driving and returns very decent mileage with the 6 speed automatic.  Unless you drive it like you stole it of course.

I'm getting +/- 10.5l/100 km winter and around 9 summer for mixed driving.
Me Los Tabarnacos, Yeah, Yeah!
