"The really juicy news is that the Verano will also be available with the same turbo 2.0-liter four cylinder found in the Regal Turbo, and again with your choice of six-speed manual or automatic! That means this significantly smaller, lighter four-door will be available with a full 220 horsepower." (Source: Autoblog)

Last week we've debated the size versus regal based on some media comments. Now, they say it's "significantly smaller" than the Regal.

Adjectives don't mean much, actual dimensions do.  It appears to be 6 inches shorter than the Regal with 2 cu. ft. less interior space in total.  Whether someone want to describe that as "sugnificantly smaller" or not is, for me, largely irrelevant. A trunk that is 2 cu. ft. larger is a difference you may notice.  But 2 cu. ft. spread over the entire interior will likely make less of an impression.

Well, the only weight listed on GM Canada for the Cruize is the LT Turbo = 1407 / 3102

I would assume the 2.0L Turbo would weigh a bit more and the Verano would weight a bit more due to added luxury features.  I think 3300-3400lbs is in the right ballpark.  A bit heavy for it's class, but definetly lighter then the Regal.

Time will tell I guess.

Likely will be a bit heavy, but the size, turbo and 6 speed manual as a combination have me actually excited (a bit) about a Buick!

One of the articles I read said the turbo wouldn't be introduced until 2013.

The Verona is at the Toronto Auto Show.  I am so disappointed in this car on first look. I had really high hopes for it.  But the styling looks like a 4/5ths Lacrosse in real life complete with 6 hood portholes.  The Lacrosse is nice for a large car, but the look is lost on the small Verona.  Aside from a slightly different radio and park assist button, the interiors are the same.  Materials, buttons, etc.

The driving experience could set it apart but right now it is just a Cruze LT.

250HP? Interesting.

250HP? Interesting.

I think that's what the Buick dude was telling us at the Toronto AutoShow...it's the same/similar engine as the Regal GS.  When I said "Why would they do that?", he replied "Because the Regal is a much bigger car.".
If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.

http://blog.caranddriver.com/2012-buick-verano-priced-from-23470-top-trim-starts-at-26850/

US Pricing announced.
Quote
2012 Buick Verano Priced From $23,470; Top Trim Starts at $26,850

I would assume $25K-30K in Canada then.  Mention only the 180HP 2.4L motor and 6-speed auto are offered.  I wonder if the turbo will come?

I hope the turbo will come - that could make for a very nice little ride.

Looks like a great value upscale commuter with a torque-y engine and reasonable FE. It seems in case of GM you don't have to go oversized or overpriced anymore to get a luxurious ride.  2-3 y.o. Verano will be a bargain with 160k km powertrain warranty.
