Will you cross-shop it against the RAV4 and Forester?  ;D

Yesterday on my way home from work I noticed a new Explorer at the Ford dealer.  Might have to check it out this weekend (when no pesky sales people are around).

Give it a year or two. I check out new models so I know what to target used a few years later.

A nice two year old explorer will be mid 20's after two years. Find a private owned creampuff with low kms and lots of warranty. No GST, PST, admin fee, PDI fee, air con tax, tire fee etc...

My brother was telling me their dealership just received their 1st Explorers

Looks much better then the old one, at least it has some curves and creases in the sheet metal, and interior looks 100% better

Motor Trend just ran a 3-row crossover SUV comparison test.  The Explorer..... didn't do so great:

^ Interesting comparo, thanks for sharing.  I like certain things about all six of the vehicles tested.......too bad you couldn't combine the positives in all of them to reach a final product.  It would be of been interesting to include the Sorento and Veracruz in the mix to see how well/bad they faired against the competition.

I would have liked to have seen those in the mix as well.

"Can all this be chalked up to the Explorer being an early pre-production vehicle?"

They tested a pre-production vehicle? Not exactly a fair fight then. Ford should not have released it.

I sure hope Ford fixed those flaws and that it will prove to be a good vehicle. This would be a major setback for Ford if they really didn't get it right and I'll be first in line to tell them since mine was built last week and is on it's way here.

The Acadia has served me well - some recalls here and there and things were fixed as they should be. Complaints - none, but since GM has restricted leasing and the Acadia really hasn't changed since 2007 it was time to look around and the Exploder (gee I hope that doesn't happen) seemed to have all the 'right stuff and so an XLT AWD is on it's way.

After reading the Motor Trend review it sure is a little unsettling though. Second guessing Inco? Maybe a little so come on Ford - fix it up and make it right.  :shuffle: :drv2:

When I was at the Autoshow with Snowman last month the Explorer was one of the few full size SUV's that I didnt have to bend my neck sideways to enter the back seat. It had nifty pop-out running boards as well when you opened the doors.
What is it with 2nd row seats and their elevated height compared to the front seats? improved view?

Well I can understand why their is a love/hate relationship with the My Ford Touch system. After using it for a few days I actually don't mind it and people used to being able to set/forget will still find it friendly.

There is a lot of information available for sure and lots of choices. Accessing them is the issue and how to go about it. Voice commands will work and I like being able to make my calls using that. But you can keep it simple - or really customize it the way you want with information that suits you.

One great item is being able to disable automatic door locks. VW could learn from this but I guess they want you going to the dealer and for them to charge for doing it. On the Explorer you go to security and choose. Simple.

The Kiss formula gives you your radio and temperature controls available on screen or through a dial - or for heating/aircon - you can choose auto and it takes care of itself. Defrost settings are there for front and rear and onscreen display gives you heating for the seats.

Yes it takes some getting used to. Today I played with it to set it to my favorite radio station and it simple - once you read how to do it. I kept looking for a way to set it and all I had to do was chose one of the six presets already there and hold it down - change accepted. Yousa!

The steering wheel has two control pads on it. The left side controls car settings and displays like your trip computer and distance until empty kind of thing, while the right side looks after your phone, entertainment etc. Pretty clever and very functional.

Two things I need to still learn and when I have time I will try. Every time I enter the vehicle there is this bell chime kinda thingy and I hate it. I want to get rid of that if I can. The second thing is being able to edit your phonebook. It copied all of my entries, but I don't need all of them and would like to delete some. So more reading is in order.

I said I like it and I do. You just have to find your comfort level and then be happy and given my lack of technical expertise, I'm very please to admit I have it now set to my wants - including those doors - Yahoo!

One more interesting twist to the Ford experience. Roadside assistance in previous cars has all been up to three years. Ford goes to five years.
