The driver -- Noe Calazo, 19, of Tempe -- was flown by air ambulance to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital in extremely critical condition.
The sheriff's office said a deputy traveling northbound on Gantzel Road near Pecan Creek Drive met the motorcycle, traveling southbound, at 2:05 a.m. Sunday.
"The deputy used his radar unit and clocked the motorcycle at 157 mph in a 45 mph zone," the sheriff's release said. "Before any patrol deputy could get near the motorcyclist, he crashed into a traffic signal pole."
The release continued, "The motorcycle flew through the air for another 18 feet before colliding with a wooden SRP pole. The motorcycle was nearly disintegrated on impact and Calazo flew an additional
104 feet through the air before striking the ground."
Calazo's driver's license is currently revoked, authorities said. They said when he is released from the hospital, he will face charges of aggravated DUI, reckless driving and criminal speeding.
