Motorcycle driver survives 157 mph crash in SE Valley

FLORENCE, Ariz. -- A motorcycle was clocked at 157 mph before it smashed into a traffic signal pole in San Tan Valley and nearly disintegrated, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

The driver -- Noe Calazo, 19, of Tempe -- was flown by air ambulance to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital in extremely critical condition.

The sheriff's office said a deputy traveling northbound on Gantzel Road near Pecan Creek Drive met the motorcycle, traveling southbound, at 2:05 a.m. Sunday.

"The deputy used his radar unit and clocked the motorcycle at 157 mph in a 45 mph zone," the sheriff's release said. "Before any patrol deputy could get near the motorcyclist, he crashed into a traffic signal pole."

The release continued, "The motorcycle flew through the air for another 18 feet before colliding with a wooden SRP pole. The motorcycle was nearly disintegrated on impact and Calazo flew an additional 104 feet through the air before striking the ground."

Calazo's driver's license is currently revoked, authorities said. They said when he is released from the hospital, he will face charges of aggravated DUI, reckless driving and criminal speeding.

I know of a couple of nasty similar type accidents, both involving immovable objects.

1) I saw a Harley drive by..not going too fast.  Moments later, I heard a "snap" like the sound of a piece of wood snapping.  Except it wasn't wood...it was his leg.  He had drifted off the road onto the shoulder and clipped a road sign with his leg.  Ouch.

2) This one is gruesome.  Met a deputy down south who tells us this gem. He says he was golfing and he hears the sound of a motorcycle let it rip from a stop...running through 3-4 gears.  Then a sickening thud sound.  Deputy assumes the worst.  Later that same night now on duty, he gets a call to roughly the same area for a report of a break in.  He proceeds to the residence in the front pane window is broken, as it a large rock has been thrown through it.  Except a rock wasn't thrown through the window..it was an arm!  Turns out this was in the EXACT same area as the crash.  A truck had pulled out in front of the motorcyclist who had nowhere to go except T-boning the truck.  Killed instantly and a gruesome crash.  His arm had become separated from his body and crashed through the front window of the residence near the crash scene. Not sure if it's true or if he was BSing.  But an interesting story nonetheless.
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

"Extremely critical". Surprised this waste of space survived at all.

Survives...unfortunately.

I guess the next time he'll take out someone that has nothing to do with his short-peckered antics...and probably walk away again.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.
