Trucks and SUVs without splash/mud guard
« on: November 23, 2010, 07:47:27 pm »
Now that we have snow and gravel on the road, my windshield is suffering once again from rocks thrown in the air by various tall vehicles without splash guard.

I know it's the nature of the season, but I feel much more comfortable following cars with mud guards.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

If I could I would ;D
But then during rush hour it's wasted effort since I'm going 2km/h. Took me almost 40 minutes get home from work and I live 15 blocks from work.

Oh and addendum to mud guard. I hate lifted trucks.  :P

Like those Winnebagos and old motorhomes with what looks like the net of black hair stuck to the back bumper! Actually I have seen a few Subaru's with the rally-style orange mud guards and they look pretty sweet.

You could try to convince Alberta to make it illegal to drive without mud guards.   :)

My 2010 Ford Ranger FX4 didn't come with front mud flaps, only rear mud flaps. Had to buy and have the dealer install the front mud flaps. :( All trucks should have mud flaps, front and rear. My old Mazda RWD does.

Aren't small cars also able to throw rocks up, especially RWD ones?

ANY tire can pick up a stone and carry it for between 1/4 revolution and 6 months and spit it back at you.  For instance a stone can be trapped in the tread  for some time and then the tire hits a bump or an expansion joint just at the right point of the tires revolution which can distort the tread just  right  to throw the stone out.

Both my SAABs came with front, rear and underbody mudflaps.  Nothing I've had since has tho'

Wouldn't it be faster to walk 15 blocks? Seems like a waste of gas to me and too short of a distance to drive.

But those 15 blocks could contain an Expressway junction with no sidewalks.
