For all the parents out there: yes, you can have your cake and eat it too.

Only two minor gripes so far:

(1)  There aren't enough gradients to the volume.  Set it to six or seven and it's LOUD.  I'm often in a situation where 4 is too quiet and 5 is too loud.  They should have twice as many available volume settings, at least.

(2)  The shift knob transfers heat and cold too well.  Should have gone with a leather knob, not a hunk of aluminum with one leather strap.

Other than those two minor (and I mean minor) nit-picks, this car is AMAZING.  Perfect Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde machine.  Hooligan car when I want it to be (and a hooligan car with razor-sharp steering and shifting as the engine wails like a cybernetic banshee), sensible compact sedan when I want that.

Thanks for the update Mitlov. Sounds like you are really having to stretch to find faults.

I certainly agree with your premise of the SI making an excellent compromise between sensible family hauler and grin factory for a driving enthusiast. I can't really think of another car (at that price) that does both as well.

Precisely.

Anyhoo, time for a fuel economy update.  After 1,250 miles, I'm averaging 21 mpg US (11.2 L/100km) in city driving, and 32 mpg US (7.35 L/100km) in highway driving.  These numbers are with driving on the more enthusiastic side of average; I'm not racing other cars from stoplights, but I'm definitely not hypermiling either.

From what I've heard, these numbers will improve slightly after a couple of oil changes and the engine being fully broken in.  So I'm pretty happy with how it's performing at the pump.

Sounds a touch high but like you said its quite new.

I found fuel economy on the TSX got about 2 L / 100km better after 8,000 or 10,000 km. Similar for the departed Civic (maybe 1 to 1.5 better).

My guess is that you eventually stabilize in the 9.5 city / 6.5 highway range but I'm not sure how tall the final gear is.

It's better than my fully-broken-in Jetta was getting.

Final gear is ridiculously tall.  That's the advantage of a 6MT over a 5MT, I suppose.

Ditto with me too (TSX and my former, current gen. Civic).

I just realized our car histories are freakishly similar. :o

2Hondas1BMW also has a sort of similar history with us.  He got his TSX I think the same year we did.  Then I believe we all got BMWs the same year.  Lol.  Hey, what can you say?  We have great taste...   ;)
