In reality my wife would have a hard time identifying the floor jack in our garage. The G8 wheels/tires are done by myself as I prefer to installing at home as the weather dictates.

The Land Rover is a different matter. Cheap, standard size wheels (19")  are non-exsistant. In addtion it runs a rudimentry TPMS system. Because of all this I have gotten the tires swapped back and forth on the smae wheels. Here in Calgary there is a mobile service that comes to your house for the same price that a tire shop charges. I had a chuckle when his girly floor jack couldn't lift the LR3. He had to dig out his heavy monster jack buried in the truck.

A solution is on the horizon though as I have discovered a pipeline of new Range Rover wheels/tires on Evbay. It seems that California Range Rover buyers swap their "small" 19" wheels for some 22".

With patience I should be able to land some wheels with new all seasons for under $1k on my doorstep.

Anyone know if "Contact Patch" (Peter Wright) is still in business?
He operated a mobile service out of Mt. Albert, which is north of Toronto.  Drove a bright orange cube van to all the PCA track events  and as well did tire sales and service out of it wherever you wanted.

I bought my first set of track rubber from him, but that was years ago. Good guy to deal with, used to working on expensive vehicles and wheels.  The business helped finance his track hobby, a very nice orange 240Z.

I'd do it myself but unfortunately I live in an apartment building so gotta take it to the shop. $30 twice a year is no big deal though.

Did mine on the truck with my girly Jack yesterday.  20 min all done, lad it was warm, may be the last warm weekend we have now.  Also washed and vacuumed the Yaris.  Found two small paint chips that need attending to.

Changed my Honda on Friday.   I didn't have my torque wrench so I took a guess at hand tightening.  Got my torque wrench back on Saturday and checked them.   I was pretty close on most of the nuts.

I swapped them over this afternoon. Found a stupid roofing nail in one of the summer tires. It must have just happened. Time to pick up a plug kit I guess.

Bought a set of 4 OEM Audi (A3) rims wrapped in Dunlops SP Winter Sport M3.

Put them on yesterday.

A little big (215/55 R17) but for $500 I can't complain.

It's good to have friends with Audis. ;D

The TL now has the winter boots on (X-Ice2).   Tis the season for a soft, quiet ride.

Both.

Bought a quality jack that rrocket recommended and we changed the TSX wheels ourselves.  It was fun.

Took a look at the 18" wheels for the Bimmer and said forget it - shop did it.  Maybe next year.

That's a steal for 17 inch OEM alloys + Dunlop WinterSports vdk.   :o

Finally bought a set of nice alloys for the TSX, I thought I wouldn't mind the black steelies forever, but after a few years, I did (purely for esthetic reasons!)  Funny thing is, the ride is softer and more comfortable even though the alloys are the same size as the stock wheels (17 inch) and the tires are winter rubber.   ???

I've used a separate wheel/tire set-up for a long time now, and always do it myself.  I just bought a new floor jack this year, after my last one only lasted 25 years...!

Spent a little time this morning switching over the Corolla, and this afternoon on the Scoob.  Unfortunately, I also fond the driver's side front axle on the Scoob is done for, and will need to be swapped out.  On the good side, it lasted over 250K and it's the original part.  Not bad.

With temps supposedly dropping to nearly -20C this week and perhaps some snow on the way, it was time for the snows...
No place I'd rather be...

I do them myself, after getting tired of shops installing lug nuts unevenly and with some so tight I would never have gotten them off if I'd had a flat out in the 'boonies.

With two mounted rim/tire sets for the Grand Vitara, I label the removed ones as to their position, so they can be rotated when reinstalled.  I also clean the hub seats on both the brake and the rim, and lubricate those surfaces so the rims don't corrode in place.  I use a torque wrench to set the nuts at spec., and which allows removal by hand.  I put a rag over the top of the jack to avoid cracking the paint on the jack points.

I kind of doubt shops are this careful.
