Divots on my roof and hood
« on: October 28, 2010, 12:10:45 pm »
I was just outside looking over my car (2009 Corolla) and for the longest time I've had this single divot in the front hood. I assumed it was caused by a rock on the highway. Not a big deal... but now I've noticed a dozen divots. They are indentations on the roof, hood, and trunk of the car. These are not scratches and none of the paint is chipped away... it's just deformed.

It looks like it went through a minor hail storm... but we've not had that kind of weather. Maybe some twigs falling out of the trees or some acorn hats (the acorns are finally gone) but nothing significant enough in my mind to cause that.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm sort of annoyed with it right now.

I'd be willing to bet you have been through a hail storm, especially if you are in Alberta.

Photos? Definitely. I'll take a couple of pictures tomorrow and see if I can show you what I'm seeing.

Southern Ontario... and no hail that I know about. Just a good windstorm.

Sheet metal is getting thinner and thinner nowadays, and it's not just cars:

It gets worse. Wait until you find "fingerprints" dented into the front of the hood from closing it.

BTW: I took photos and you can't see a thing :)

My uncle is a metallurgist and he says it looks like something impacted from above while I was driving as they all have the same shape and angle. Wasn't a hail storm... and I certainly didn't hear anything... I was mad when I posted it but it'll be fine.

My car has taken quite a bit of abuse recently. I try and take the best care of it but stuff happens.
