Detailer recommendation in Ottawa
« on: October 25, 2010, 10:53:31 pm »
The significant other is telling me that it's time to get the car detailed (and she's going to pay for it).  I've never had a car detailed so I'm looking for recommendations for good detailers in Ottawa.

Shopping for a quality detailer is very important.  Giving your vehicle to someone that doesn't know what they are doing can turn out to be a horror story.  What I would look for is to see if there are a number of other vehicles being worked on, finished, or awaiting an appointment.  I would also ask for samples of their work, whether it be pictures or a vehicle in the flesh.

Ask what their detailing process will be on your vehicle, ie claying, polishing, sealing, etc.  I would also ask what kind of products they will be using.  A professional detailing shop will always use professional grade products.  Paint correction typically takes a full day when done right, so if a detailing shop tells you that your car should be ready in a couple of hours don't get it done there.  Prices will vary from one professional shop to the next, but expect to pay a bare minimum of $300 for a full detail.  That price is on the very low side so keep that in mind.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you make out.

Jamie who goes by "Becks" on the ottawamazda.ca board is the only one that I know of.  I watched him give a demo and he really knows what he's doing.  No idea what he'd charge.

What exactly is "paint correction"? All these fancy smancy terms they've come up with for this industry. I've always used the terms "clean" (the paint), "polish" and "wax" with an end result being a glassy-smooth paint finish.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

Jamie does a very good job and is quite knowledgable when it comes to products, process, and technique, etc. I have seen his work and he truly cares about what he does.

My new store (Luxe Auto Lounge) also does cleaning/detailing through our service department in case anyone is interested and/or for future reference.

Yeah I realize I haven't been on the forum as much as I would like to be, however with being on several others and running our store day in and day out, managing staff, etc it is a lot on my plate. I do try my best to stay in touch with what is happening on the forum and will always continue to make a better effort and improve.

CanuckG35 and I have spoken a few times - either of us can be contacted for any questions, etc that anyone has regarding cleaning and detailing.

Paint correction relates to removing defects in a vehicle's paint, such as: scratches, swirls, marring, etc. It is basically a more 'specialized' term vs. saying something like buffing/polishing which some find vague depending on the context in which it is used.
