Brigitte needs a new car! What should she buy?
« on: October 21, 2010, 01:07:23 pm »
She won't start the thread -- so here we go.

What I think she wants.
Something sporty
Not too spendy (max 30-35k)
Solid feeling (think german cars)
Nimble and fun to drive
Not too horrible on fuel
Manual preferred

GO!

I think you just described a GTI.  However, she should really cross shop it with a WRX and a Speed 3  :rofl2:

What else feels like a German car other than a German car and meets all criteria?
Answer: VW GTI.

If she has time to wait, a 2012 Focus Titanium or ST would fit the bill.

Sure. If she can wait until next year and go without turbo, Focus Titanium should do it. I recall she wants/likes hatchs for the new car for practical reasons.

You can't get the Titanium in a manual so it would have to be a Focus SE.   Stupid Ford.

Golf Wagon TDI.

I think she should get a CPO 3 series, then she could post about how non BMW people just don't get it. LOL

Or a GTIbaruspeed 3.

Golf Wagon TDI.

I'm not exactly sure what Brigitte's driving habits are, but considering her 11 year old still hasn't hit 200,000km, I don't think a TDI would be worth it. You need to drive long distances for a TDI to warm up and be as efficient as it can be. Plus, of course, the more you drive a TDI, the quicker you get your initial additional investment back.

You're probably right.  It's just that "Golf Wagon TDI" is now my default answer to any "What car" thread as it meets SO many criteria.
