I already know what I want, anyway.

Car wise you mean?   ;)  Well...tell us what you want...what you really really want.

Typically, 42% of a dealers bottom line is from service (Japanese brands)....

How can that be, the cars never break?   :run:

If it is maintenance work then it not broken

Called Meinecke (on the recommendation of a coworker), who took me at a moment's notice and re-bled the lines (shouldn't VW have done that after changing the fluid?)

From the look of your bill it appears you paid the dealership to flush the brake fluid.  Why did it have to be done again?

Anyway, glad you're no longer mowing down innocent children and old people in scooters.

They apparently flushed the lines, but didn't bleed them properly.

BTW Brig, do you use your parking brake regularly?

Yes I did, until about six months ago, when it became too loose to engage.  I made a mental note at the time to have them look at it at my next oil change.  I wonder if that's when the seizing began.

Anyway, glad you're no longer mowing down innocent children and old people in scooters.

And the puppies and kittens.   ;D  I'm glad, too.

Brakes are just something that cost money after a while. On my Mazda pickup which I think has been very reliable, I still have changed out the back cylinders, the front calipers, the front pads several times, the front discs, the master cylinder, the brake booster, and a brake line. The cost is not so bad because I did the repairs myself, but OTOH it spent a whole summer up on blocks (in front of the trailer I was living in at the time) while I got around to doing the fixin'.

The only reason the parking brake cables haven't been replaced is when they inevitably seized I cut them off and parked in gear for 10+ years.

You want to see a nightmare car repair bill?

Ouch.  That 750 tale is unfortunately not atypical for that car.  It makes my own "money pit" experience seem cheap...
