I have a car that goes and a watch that tells time. Are they 'coherent' with each other? Who gives a :censor:? ::)

I have a few nice watches, but the one is that is most relevant to my car choice is my Speedy Pro. This is the current standard model which closest to the original Speedmaster which is arguably one of the most historically significant watches ever made.

As a car driver, it has a chronograph for timing laps and a tachymeter scale for calculating speed. But I just like its classic looks, and history has proven its durability.

cool watch, props.
quick question.  what makes original speedmaster a significant model?  and, secondly, cool knife.  I have one from spyderco as well.  :)

That's my husband favorite watch, for the same reason.

I've always liked Omega Aqua Terra's, so my husband bought me one (ladies version).

Attached is a pic (men's watch) & review of an Aqua Terra, which highlights why I've always liked it, re understated-ness, simple elegance and reliability/quality:

quick question.  what makes original speedmaster a significant model?

Ray could probably tell you more, but it's first and only watch that passed NASA's rigorous tests for all manned space flights.  Often called the 'moon watch' for that reason.

ah, cool.  thanks for the info!.  you are right on the speedmaster, as it seems that it is the only watch officially recognized for space/moon mission.

Significantly, it was the only watch that was ever worn on the moon, and as well, if you remember during the Apollo 13 mission where all the on-board instruments failed, the Speedmaster was the watch they relied on for timing engine burns to get them home safely. As Julie mentioned, the other aspect of why this watch is so special is that during the evaluation program, it was the only watch to survive the NASA tests (http://watch-happening.blogspot.com/2009/04/history-omega-how-omega-speedmaster.html)

That's cool...that watch is on my list.

I know Breitling has long been associated with aviation...I'm not a big fan though.  Which is a good thing...as they're freak'n expensive.

I've become a fan of Hamilton watches lately.  They've got a whole pilot line of watches that do a bunch of "stuff" that I wouldn't need!  They've got the Ventura too...worn by some guy named Elvis.

If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.

I've bought a couple of Hamiltons as gifts to close friends.  That watch in your pic looks like the MIB Ventura watch...they have many different versions of that watch.

Since you're a pilot, I suspect you like their "X" watches?

I cringe when I see those Breitling ads with John Travolta. Even if I could afford one, I think I'd be too embarrassed to wear it.

My work watch is a Victorinox Infantry. It's got the date and a second hour hand for UTC, which is all I really need. I love the classic styling and simple, legible face. It cost a couple hundred bucks, which is the sweet spot for watches, IMO: enough that it has some heft and feels like a quality instrument, but not so much that I'm overly concerned about breaking or scratching it.

Which I suppose is similar to how I feel about the GTI: a solid car that's stylish but not flashy, does its job well and offers great value for money.

Huh...why is that?  Anyone that is type rated on a 707 is good in my books.

I think it's great that Travolta flies what he does. In fact, I think he's found the perfect way to fly: make your fortune by acting, gun running, drug smuggling or whatever, then have all the time and money in the world to fly cool stuff as you please. Good on him.

I just think those ads are horrible. Like the one with Travolta wearing a ridiculous WWII bomber jacket, staring off at the sunset with his jaw stuck out and an earnest Scientology gleam in his eyes.

It's all just a bit rich, IMO.

I thought that 707s were almost banned from major airports in NA because of their noise and smoke... or is there an affordable ( for a guy like Travolta) upgrade kit for them.

I faintly remember seeing a film clip of a test pilot doing a barrel roll in a prototype 707... that must have been fun.
