What item, like your watch, is coherant about your car choice?
« on: October 16, 2010, 10:54:23 pm »
I have been struggling a bit with what I want to buy to replace 06 TL and when I think a bit more luxury
I have to think of those luxury items I'm comfortable with.  Today, I just thought that my 15 year old watch
might fit criteria I'm developing for new car that has some extra luxury.  It's nothing special and maybe traditional Seiko
with gold highlights and five buttons / white face with three smaler black dials.  Maybe hybrid buyers wear timex?  Maybe G37 Buyers wear Breitling?  Any chance there is a theme here?  Should new Sonata owners be wearing a svelt design watch?  Should VW drivers be wearing something older than ten years
and practical/ easily read dials that glow in the dark?  Should Mini drivers not wear any timepiece because they have their cell or iPad close bye?

Every Subaru owner that I know wears an altimeter watch, including me.  Invaluable tool for white-out navigating while climbing/ski-mountaineering on glaciers and icefields.  Of course, all the Scoob owners I know are climbers...
No place I'd rather be...

LOL... I never thought about a link between the watch and the car.

Anyway, a Mazda/Mitsubishi owner has Swatch, Swiss Military or Skagen. I guess poor-man watches just like the cars, but I like them anyway although I don't have a passion for watches.

This VW driver has a nearly 10 year old Timex Ironman. The one that connects to ones computer USB that they don't make anymore.  I had it when I had an Audi, a BMW and now a VW.
It has died twice, the buttons on the case, not the electronics, and been essentially replaced by Timex for <$50 each time.
It is neither a luxury item nor is it coherent with my cars.   Oh well.

I don't think I own any "luxury items"

Hardly, w.e only have enough cash left for Tag Caliber S models after all the $ we save on our US imports. ;D

As one not really interested in watches....me and the future Mrs both have Seiko something or others. Our "other" watches are an old Citizen for me and a 40 RMB plastic something for her (she says she likes the look...fair enough).

Acura TSX and BMW Z4.

Haven't worn a watch in years. When I did, it was the cheapest one I could find at Walmart.

Cell phone has the exact time, so why bother?

I have a few expensive watches that I never wear.  They sit in a drawer with some pricey Mont Blanc and other pens I never write with.  That drawer is next to my closet that still has a bunch of Armani suits I never wear.

I still get an expensive haircut.  The one vice I can't drop...

Which works if you always carry a cell phone.

It must be time for a smartphone thread...

Drive a Five Hundred and a Versa, I don't wear a watch. I have no interest in name brands or luxury items.

A Casio WV-58E-1AVEF.

Its a watch, it tells time and numerous other bits of info, it never needs to be set, it is accurate, and was under $75.

What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

Jeep drivers wear Casios.  Just in case you need to use them to shim a broken engine/transmission mount...

Actually my wife bought me a Fossil last year for X-Mas.  Great watch for $200 bucks - stainless steel - very practical.

I have a few nice watches, but the one is that is most relevant to my car choice is my Speedy Pro. This is the current standard model which closest to the original Speedmaster which is arguably one of the most historically significant watches ever made.

As a car driver, it has a chronograph for timing laps and a tachymeter scale for calculating speed. But I just like its classic looks, and history has proven its durability.
