It seems the prices down south are slowly creeping up.
According to edmunds.com:

Sad but true
It's also interesting to see that the US list prices given in these press releases all seem to say "(includes $xxx delivery fee)".....I wish Canadian manufacturers would do the same!

Canadian manufacturers
You mean the local Canadian subsidiary of the manufacturer.

For some reason it's far cheaper to ship a Canadian made Corolla across the US than it is across Canada. About 1/2 the price. Hey, I know fuel is cheaper in the US, but c'mon, we're getting shafted.

I could be inaccurate in my recollection - but this is what I remember -
In the 70's Japanese imports added a Pre Delivery Inspection to every car sold. This was added to the gross profit and salesmen were paid commission on it.
If an inspection was actually done - it was checking the fluid levels and all vehicles are inspected for transport damage. Plastic is removed from the seats.
Now all Canadian dealers/manufacturers charge it as well as freight.
In the U.S. freight is $680 - $750 - there is no such thing as PDI.
Shipments from Japan to Seattle are $750 U.S. - so how much from Japan to Vancouver?
The PDI charge is around $700 or more.
Shop time would be about 7 hours with a technician.
If they are doing such an inspection - we should be getting a 50 page itemized checklist that the tech signs off on as proof that it isn't fraud.
Dealers like to shaft the salesmen - so I don't know who gets the money - the dealer or the Canadian distributor.
Poor Americans have to drive around in these uninspected cars.
I'm sure if they pulled this stunt in the U.S. that there would be class action lawsuits right and left as well as consumer fraud investigations.
