if that kid and his passanger that just got killed simply realized the car that changed into his lane spot was not deliberate , that this was normal car behavior simply because they did not see you ,that to accept this without the attitude , he would be alive today
by starting this thread , i hoping that there is a chance that someone might live by all the tips we leave .

i selected just one tip as to make it easier on people to contribute

if you care about riders ,i know you will contribute to this thread too

sure ,i write off morons like this killed this way from their own stupidity but it is still 2 lives cut short needlessly that had friends and family that will miss them dearly
so how bout it guys . heres my tip , an obvious one i know , but that micro second edge it gives me has saved my ass more than once

keep 2 fingers over the front brake

thats really interesting
23 viewing and not one post on the subject
don't you care about your fellow riders to try and help them avoid deadly accidents ?

interesting you berate me for my riding style and irresponsibility but when it comes to really want to help your fellow rider , who steps up to the plate ?

but then i read " Steering You Right: The speeding doctor " posts this morning and was shocked

so i guess this fits right in with that , so be it

I'd guess there are more carnuts than bikenuts (haha) here.
I'm sure the 2 wheel fans will chime in (rrocket, Guy,,,etc..)

I don't find creeping along in traffic having to watch everyone else (riding defensively) fun at all.  Crowded by semis and large pick ups, tailgated by everyone and cutoff constantly?  No, thanks.  I rarely ride in the city.

So, my tip is to avoid city traffic altogether.  Go to where you can do 200km/h wheelies.  I do.

Look well ahead.

Ride with your high beams on in the day.

Keep 2 fingers over the brake lever all the time.

Glance in your rear view at stoplight and be prepared to move in case guy behind is daydreaming.

How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

Certainly you have to be spatially aware for people coming into your lanes.  However, sometime it happens so suddenly, there's no much you can do.

Riding in the LH portion of you lane can help on people seeing you a bit better and prevent people from trying to "share" your lane.

Ride where I can see you in my drivers side outside mirror, NOT in my passenger side mirror.    Then I won't be surprised if you decide to pass me.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I agree with rrocket 4 suggestions. Here's one that worked well for me:

Install a really loud horn (Stebel Nautilus, loud as a freight train horn, well almost) and keep your thumb on the on the switch in situations where you may get cut-off.

Then enjoy as the driver who wandered in your lane is looking all over the place for the tractor-trailer.

Excellent idea!!  The vests are cheap now and offer hi viz and hi functionality. I use to wear this over my motard body armor when I was out blasting around:

thank you rrocket so much for getting this rolling

i do disagree with the lane spot thing , always been able to avoid them ( lots of practice here )

but that high beam tip , one of the first i ever learned
3 buddies on their bikes going through medicine hat , the 3rd got his 13 day old 73 triumph bonneville totaled . he was the only one the driver didn't see and the only one that didn't have his high beams on , she noticed the other 2 bikes and waited till they went by then nailed him

I actually usually replace my headlights with super bright bulb (or a snowmobile bulb, as they are MUCH brighter).  Anywhere between 100 and 130 watts.  They are so bright, that people have told me that they are too bright..in the day!!  If they think it's too bright in the day, that means they can see me..and that's a good thing.

Vest part 2:

Airbag system, when thrown from the bike vest inflates and extends, protects body 'core' as well as tailbone and immobilizing head and neck.

I replaced both bulbs with HID lights. Probably similar results as far as visibility from car drivers are concerned.

Neat.  I still think Forcefield makes the most amazing body armor.  It's light, molds to your body, but when there's a shock put to it, it's react and turn hard.  It's hard to explain. For example, I had a ball of the material used in Forcefield armor in my hands.  You can squeeze the ball, and it's quite pliable.  Kinda squishy.  But as soon as you place the ball on a table and smash it or hit it with any force, it tightens up immediately and doesn't squish at all.

They call it Moulded Nitrex.  Leads the pack in EU armor protection.
