My car is cursed
« on: September 25, 2010, 05:25:23 pm »
Bought my 2005 Mazda 3 last April. Mechanically the car has been good  but the car is cursed. So far all 4 my B F Goodrich tires (bought June 2009) are compromised or ruined.

August 2009- Hit while parked on street in front of my house. Ironically it was on street because I had it sprayed to prevent rust (to keep it nice) and was letting it drip on road. $6500 damage to back end and left rear tire was toast.

Sept 2009- Pick up bolt in left front tire. Had to get a plug put in.

Dec 2009- Hit again while parked on street while having Christmas dinner at friends house. $2500 damage to front end.

Aug 2010- Pick up a bolt in right rear tire in Trois rivers on my way home from Quebec city. Had to have plug put in.

Today- Hit a 3 foot chunk of metal on highway and blew out my right front tire. There were 4 of us on the side of road with blown tire from hitting that thing. Tire has big slash in side wall and my mag has a tiny dent on edge.

That is all 4 tires damaged or ruined in the space of 1 1/2 years. Plus car hit twice whiled parked.

YIKES!!!! :o

Living my BMW dream.

Move to a different province. :P
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

My father had a run of luck like that years back - went through 7-8 tires in two years. My wife shredded a brand new tire on our minivan four hours after a new set went on.

Many years ago I had 3 or 4 flat tires over the course of a long weekend, all but one on the same wheel. I used the spare and I had some spare rubber tubes (I don't know the exact English word for that, but I guess you know what I'm talking about) but eventually I ran out. The last flat left me stranded on the side of road. I had to call a neighbour to bring me a spare wheel to get home. This is what I call bad luck.

That's bad luck - except this? FOUR of you on the side of the road! Didn't anyone think to remove the chunk of metal from the road? Of course, if the road was really busy and/or it was right after a corner, I'd leave it too, but otherwise - if I was the first one there, you other three would not have had an issue.

It was a very busy 3 lane highway. I called 911 to notify police so they could remove debris. Not sure if after the 3rd or 4th car hit it if it was not knocked off to side of road.

I was doing 120. I did not brake so by the time I stopped I was well down the road.
