Seriously, people need to start using their :censor:' brains and stop trying to screw up traffic.  Look at the posts we have from people that intentionally sit in the left lane thinking they are responsible for speed limit enforcement.  Then we have people that insist that it's not only illegal, but immoral to speed by even 1km/h, regardless of what it might do to the flow of traffic.  Stop obsessing over the number on the sign and try to be considerate and keep traffic moving smoothly.

I'm not advocating burning through traffic at some insane speed that is beyond your abilities, but seriously, if I'm in the left lane passing someone, and someone traveling faster than me is gaining on me, I speed up to match their speed, and move right as soon as possible.  I make sure no one slowed in the left lane thanks to me.

When merging, match or even slightly exceed the speed of the traffic you're merging to.  Laws, rules, whatever, I don't care.  I just know that this allows traffic to keep moving and there is no sudden conga-line of pissed off people.

The right lane is the normal driving lane.  You move left to pass and move left to let people merge.  What pisses me off is when I move left to let people merge, and then the jerk-offs intentionally block me from moving back right to let faster traffic by.  Oh, no, they're going to tailgate the person in front of them just to make sure I can't get back in.  Why are people such assholes when they drive?  There are posts in this thread about people enjoying making others angry.  Christ, what is with that?

I'll never understand that.  People pi$$ing in your Corn Flakes because *they* had a bad day.  Nothing common about courtesy.

John, however bad it may be in AB it is 10 times worse in the GTA.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Indeed -- came back last week from a couple days in Edmonton, land of photo radar and red light cameras everywhere.
I did notice more courtesy on the highways, maybe because everyone is paying so close attention to their speed and therefore not concerned about teaching their fellow drivers "a lesson".  I think there is a bit of good that comes with the radar in that it reduces the arsehole behaviour, but the flipside is when on a 6 or 8 lane highway when there isn't much traffic, everyone is doing 108 km/h where conditions would allow 120-130 easy.

You still have your rednecks in their diesel Dodge duallies of course, but they were barging around doing 110 instead of the usual 140 or so here..

He probably also slows down before he enters the exit ramp on the highway, too.  Another pet peeve of mine.

I slow down a bit before an exit ramp, to save fuel. I also ease up to a red light and not come at speed and then  brake hard. I know this annoys some people but I still keep doing it. Does this make me a bad person? Judging by some of the posts here, I am sure some think so.

As I stated in the original post, if you do not want to be slowed down, then GET OUT  of the right lane near busy ramps.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with TPL's statement. Driving in Toronto is getting worse and worse. Rush-hour now extends from 7AM to 8PM everyday.

You're still a troll.  *Every* driving instructor (and anyone with a modicum of common sense and driving skill) will tell you that you slow down after you've exited the highway.  You're affecting the flow of traffic.  Go away.

Including weekends! I used to be able to visit friends in the GTA area without too much difficulty because I'd be heading into the city around 6 PM on a Saturday or a Sunday and the roads were mostly fine. Now I hit traffic jams every time. Even at 1 AM heading out of the city there are traffic jams!

From the Ontario Official Driver's Handbook.

Leaving a freeway

There are usually three parts to a freeway exit: a lane for slowing down that leads drivers out of the main flow of traffic, an exit ramp and an intersection with a stop sign, a yield sign or traffic light.

When leaving the freeway, signal that you want to move into the slowing lane, but do not slow down.  When you are in the lane, reduce your speed gradually to the speed shown on the exit ramp.   Check your speedometer to make sure you are going slowly enough.  You may not realize how fast you are going because you are used to the high speed of the freeway.  Be prepared to stop at the end of the exit ramp.

Signs tell you that there are freeway exits ahead far enough in advance for you to make any lane changes safely.  If you miss an exit, do not stop or reverse on the freeway.  Take the next exit.

Don't muddy the waters with facts! The OP will ignore 'em anyway because his own self-manufactured happy little bubble means he is entitled to do as he pleases. Screw the consequences.
