will the real CRX stand up?  OH IT'S A HYUNDAI NOW.   sorry honda. no silly hybrid here.  and they are saying it will get better gas mileage than the CRZ.

i am really interested to see this car once it finally makes it's official debut.  hyundai just seems to be doing everything right.  i am wondering if the asymmetrical half door design for the rear passengers really helps all that much.

I think it's going to be a controversial launch. My vision for the future? It'll be way more radical than anything else in Hyundai's lineup, it's practicality may be compromised by styling, but it's driving dynamics or fuel economy will likely be very very good (considering what they are testing it against). Particularly impressive may be the 1.6T version.

Only time will tell but I think the CR-Z will definitely fall by the wayside on this one.

Fresh from the South Korean presses, we bring you the unfortunate news that the upcoming production version of the Hyundai Veloster 2-door compact hatchback will be delayed in unveiling to early 2011.

The Veloster, code-named "FS", was scheduled to be launched in its home market in November. However, with the coinciding launches of the all-new Accent and Azera/Grandeur planned for November and December respectively, Hyundai did not wish for the Veloster to steal the spotlight alone. Hyundai intended to produce 2000 units of the Veloster before the year's end.

According to the news source, Hyundai is also considering keeping the Veloster moniker for the front-wheel drive sport hatchback, as the automaker has not been able to coin a suitable name for it yet.

The production "FS" measures 4285mm in length and 1790mm in width, which is nearly the same as the dimensions of one of its rivals, the Volkswagen Scirocco. It will be powered by a turbocharged version of a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with GDI (direct injection). Output is estimated at around 140 horsepower and it will be mated to a standard dual-clutch gearbox.

Hyundai will commence production of the Veloster in December and start sales in the South Korean market in January of next year. The automaker will subsequently launch the Veloster in North American and European markets by the first half of 2011.

Standard dual clutch? As in, the real manual transmission is optional? Or did thew screw up thoroughly by not giving it a stick at all?

i'm sure you are all aware of this old concept of it
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/11/new-hyundai-coupe-tiburon-coming-to-frankfurt-in-09/

and these spy shots
http://www.autoblog.com/2010/04/26/spy-shots-2012-hyundai-veloster-sneaks-out-shows-off-interior/

and these
http://www.leftlanenews.com/hyundai-veloster.html

some info on it

velostar and scirroco testing
http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1044539_spy-shots-2012-hyundai-velostar-coupe

i've been keeping an eye on this car , there is only 2 things i don't like about it . its styling , they decided to make it functional ( practical , with that mini van backend of it , not that bad i suppose )
i would have preferred more coupe/ sportscar styling , but concessions have to me made  i guess
the other thing i don't like is , it's expected to weigh 2900 lbs
the base motor won't quite make 140 as claimed nor will the turbo version make quite 200 hp , but thats o.k .
considering it's weight the turbo version will still be fun , and get pretty good gas mileage too , while using regualar gas . its greatest strength will be its handling , since the scirocco was its benchmark it was aiming for .
it will be a hit . it is the car i am most interested in . i'm hoping kia will make make a clone  with just the body changed .
i'd rather see a kia based on this concept with the velostars innards .

from autoweek

The reveal of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster has become something of an Elvis sighting, with reports pegging its introduction at seemingly every auto show on the circuit this year.

On Friday, CEO John Krafcik removed all doubt: The car will debut in January in Detroit.

The Veloster will arrive next year

from another source:

During a media briefing this week, Hyundai officials confirmed that the upcoming 2012 Veloster will make its world debut at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

While Hyundai has yet to make it official, it is almost certain that the Veloster (name subject to change, though rumors suggest it is here to stay) will be powered by a direct-injected version of the company's new 1.6-liter Gamma four-cylinder engine. Output is estimated at 138 horsepower and 123 lb.ft of torque. The big news is the new six-speed dual-clutch transmission that will be mated to the powertrain. The Veloster is expected to return at least 40 mpg on the highway.

Quote
Hyundai is bringing its hotly anticipated sports coupe to the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, and it appears from a new teaser video and microsite that that the car will indeed be called Veloster, ending months of speculation that the affordable model could be named something else (Tiburon, FS, π, etc.).

Hyundai has also released a video of the Veloster, but it's pretty low on the fulfillment meter and heavy on the teasing. The clip, which you can watch after the jump, tells us the Veloster will have a direct-injected engine, a dual-clutch gearbox, hit an estimated 40 miles per gallon and will come with Bluetooth connectivity. At this point we can only stare at the pretty blue LED lights seen above and continue to pour over camo-clad examples in spy shots.

Nice, this one has glass roof. A feature that never seems to make it to North America.

If someone were to ask the question as to where all of the car designers have gone, the answer could well be Korea.

Geez that Veloster is freakin gorgeous and another bullseye for the folks at Hyundai. It seems to me they are really on a dream roll and can do no harm - design wise anyway.

Now if only those darn resale values would climb a little more..... ::)
