Was driving my wife and granddaughter this morning 6:45 am and the 401 was closed in Whitby, luckly noticed a sign so I got off
Driving back at 11 the highway was still closed

Durham police said a motorcycle travelling westbound on Hwy. 401 near Brock St. in Whitby was signalled by a marked police cruiser to stop.

In an attempt to peel away from the cruiser, the motorcycle accelerated and a passenger sitting on the back of the bike was thrown from the vehicle.

The passenger was struck by at least one car and was pronounced dead on scene.

The motorcycle fled the area, said police.

I can not believe the driver left his passenger on the road

Yeah I read about this on the motorcycle forums.

What can I say, an idiotic thing to do. If there is a passenger riding with you, you are responsible for his/her safety. I am stunned to see that NO ONE stopped. Not one vehicle, and the girl was struck twice.

The world we live in. No one assumes responsibility anymore. RIP

The Star news item does not say it was a girl who was killed.

I wonder what the charge will be against the "driver" not murder but manslaughter? He did not actually kill he/she.

Criminal negligence? he/she had as much chance to hang on as at any other time. People who are passengers on motorcycles should be aware that violent manoeuvers are always possible.

Dangerous driving ? For sure but that can't be all

I guess we'll see but it sure is weird behaviour.

I don't have time to read the whole thing, but I doubt they have anymore info than you and I do. It was most likely a girl I've never seen a guy ride as a passenger.

As for the rider getting caught I hope they can incriminate him given that they have little information right now.

“We didn’t see anything actually happen or we would have stopped,” she said. “I really didn’t know what to do.”

It wasn’t until she watched the news the next morning that she realized the driver of the bike was alive and that he had fled. That’s when she called police to report what she had seen

If she thought she ran over a body parts, you would think she would have stopped at that time

Must be some easy driving in Ontario. I drove over at least a half dozen dismembered bodies today. (Hard to tell exactly how many, as well, they're in pieces...) If stopped for that, I'd spend all my time on the side of the road...

Most drivers/riders who choose to "peel away"...I wouldn't be surprised if the driver was driving without a licence, or one that was suspended or revoked, or driving without insurance.

In any case, what a low life. I wonder what kind of bike he was driving?

Still have not found the driver eh....hopefully the police are building their case really really well and just waiting to arrest this dick. If they really have no idea even after having the name of the passenger to go from.....then Police Intelligence is seriously a laughable term.
