He drove there in that? He's braver than I thought!

OK...I'll give an update here...thanks for asking Railton.

  • Everyone was very accommodating.  I could come up to speed on my own schedule...no problem.   Julie, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you come down to Cayuga with what-ever car you want.  There were many BMWs there...some older...some newer...going their own speed.  The likelihood of wrecking your car will depend on you - there's little risk that I see now that I've done it.
  • Driving quickly is hard work!
  • It is pretty hard on the car.  My poor tires show lots of signs of wear on the corners after maybe...I dunno..30 laps.
  • Stability control is amazing...and I suck at driving.  I had that thing pointed in 8 directions going into some of the turns.
  • It's a nice track.  Lots of run-off...high speed as well as low speed stuff.  Not visually interesting, but nice none-the-less.

There was a new 911GT3RS there...maybe 6 3-series...3 S2000s...an NSX...a 240Z...2 other 911s...a Cayman...2 RX-8s...an old race prepped Civic...an old race prepped Jag...a new Audi RS5...a piece of crap Celica...and a new Corolla!  Hmm...no Hyundais.    ;D
If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.

Good stuff TG!  :drive:
Was CCR playing on the Bose Stereo all the way around?  ;D

I can see easily why track tires and race pads would help the cause.

Can't recall the plate.  It was dark blue with silver stripes....I recall a Pfaff plate surround on it.  Sounded freak'n awesome.

Couldn't hear it over the screaming.  :)

Stability control shouldn't kick in much if at all on the track if you are smooth, practice makes better :)

Shouldn't Stability control be switched off at the track anyways?

Unless you are a pro, no.  It can save your bacon if things get hairy.  You never know what will happen.  Even in a low torque RX-8.

Last track day I was at was me (WRX) one GTI and about 18 RX-8's.  Towards the end of the day one of the cars dumped a bunch of fluid on the second last corner of the FABI track.  The next 3 RX-8's to push through there (2 on slicks) went completely sideways but were saved by stability control.  I slide through the corner like I was on ice and had ABS save my butt.

Like wing said, if you are smooth, it will never kick in

Calabogie is a "real" track with flow and high speed turns.  It does seem to have close guard rails and walls however.

Cayuga is an old airport with pavement connecting the runways....flat...lots of runoff.

Here's a good one with a guy and his instructor...cool!

Yeah, I heard it's awesome.  I'm taking a raincheck on your last offer Wing.  When I finally come up to Ottawa, I want a ride in the Banana!

Nice view with the camera.  A Contour SVT - hmm.... you don't see that often.  I imagine it'd be a nice track vehicle.
