2006 New Beetle
« on: August 15, 2010, 11:38:50 am »
I'm thinking about getting a used beetle, 06, 65,000KM.  I currently drive a Corolla which has been great but I have a teen with her eyes on it.  Just wondering what you think about the 06 Beetle re: fuel economy and winterdriving?  Also curious if this car has been reliable.  I'm used to the reliability of the Corolla (04).  Thanks.  Really appreciate anyone's thoughts.

Welcome and stick around for awhile...there are a few members who've owned these cars.  I'm sure they will comment shortly.

I don't have any experience with them, but here is the reliability chart from CR.

Are you looking at an automatic or manual transmission, which engine?   I have a 1998 manual 2.0L model.   I get around 8.4L/100km in mix city/hwy driving.   It handles fine in the winter with winter tires.  Mine has been reliable for the first 10 years.  Then the crank sensor called it quits at the 11 year mark.  Replaced it for a couple hundred bucks and all is good again.

As with any used car purchase, get it properly inspected first.
