Car Detailing...
« on: July 24, 2010, 09:43:43 pm »
I have a 2007 Saturn Aura XE. I've been incredibly happy with this car with one exception - the pale grey interior. It shows everything. As a high mileage commuter with a 2 year old, this is taking a toll on my car. I can't blame it all on my toddler - as it's my front seat which is the worst. I've had minor spills - coffee and so on, and one poorly placed sippy cup of apple juice that I of course ending up sitting on.

I've used club soda, auto fabric cleaner and can't make it look clean. It's to the point where I can't even look at my seat because it pisses me off.

I've never used an auto detailing service and I don't know if they would have much better luck than I would. I live in Durham Region and know of a few in Oshawa and Ajax areas. I also work in downtown Toronto so that would be an option for me as well.

Can anyone recommend one and let me know if they think they're worth it? From what I've googled, it looks like an interior shampoo is about 160-200 dollars.

Thanks

You're kidding...right. I'm in the wrong business.

Go to a store that sells industrial cleaners; SWISH for example.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

I can understand why you'd say that - but if someone can clean it professionally where I'm happy then it's worth it to me. I'm sure some people on this forum must use this type of service.

You already tried a few products. I wouldn't give up. I haven't found a stain or dirt that I couldn't remove.

With the little wee ones travelling in the car, this does happen.

Try this product, this is for carpet cleaning, works pretty good on car seats as well.

I have had great results from these guys as well. A bit on the expensive side though.

After you get the car cleaned. Spray it with 3M ScotchGuard. This protects fabric upholstery against stains, easier to clean etc.

I use Shout Stain Remover to clean my motorcycle suit. If it can clean a season worth of road grime, I'm sure it'll do the job.

I just used some on work pants than had grease ground into them.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend a detailer in your area but I can help you with some products that can remove the dirt and stains on your seats.  There hasn't been a stain in a customer's vehicle that I haven't been able to get out.

If you have cloth seats that kids or pets are constantly getting dirty, I would highly recommend investing in a small bissell little green machine.  They are not costly and really work wonders.  I use one for when I do mobile detailing.

Bissell makes a couple of great upholstery cleaners to put in the machine, and 303 Aerospace makes a fantastic cleaner and spot remover as well as a fabric guard.  Let me know if you have any questions.
