1. The question of whether or not you can drive a "better" car than your boss. My immediate boss is a great guy and wouldn't care less. Can't say the same all the way up the chain. The guys up top recently bought new cars (on the order of 50k and 75k) so this CLK is obviously quite a lot cheaper...but it is a 2 door V8 Merc...

I'd bet my stereo is 'worth' as much as my bosses car.  :P

I didn't even know there was such a question or better yet, why would anybody even care? Don't know if I could work for people like that.

I should clarify. I don't think it should matter one lick. And to my direct manager, it won't. He doesn't give a damn. But it *might* be a problem. So I'm going to change where I park, just in case. And keep everything on the down-low.

I just went to check it out again. I'm pretty sure the two gremlins I saw where actually not gremlins. The HVAC control has this odd thing where if you hit auto twice it turns it off, and rolling the secondary directional knob changes the thing off auto. Radio was fine, probably just reception.

Yes, it is CPO. I think I have cleared all the check boxes, except one.
Everything in life is relative.

Me either.  Again..never quite figured out why you'd care what anyone thinks about YOUR car.  This sounds like the "look at me" quotient in this purchase is somewhat important...

I care only insofar as they're the guys who are ultimately deciding how much my paycheck is at the end of the day.

Your interpretation is once again off. :)

I guess on of the great things about the CLK, and tbh one of the things that draws me to it, is that if you took away the badge and had people look at it (people who don't know cars) ... they'd probably think it was a Toyota Solara or something totally innocuous.

the SL, CL, SLK etc. all have too much flashiness.

My wife hated driving her E-Class to work.  Her colleagues were fine, but lots of raised eyebrows from parents.  It wouldn't have bothered me a bit, but it did her.  So, it depends on how you feel and the people you deal with.

I had no trouble meeting clients in my Mercedes, and few made any comment other than to perhaps ask me how I liked the car.  Most of my clients were CEO/COO/CFO of mid to large sized firms, so a C or E Class MB was no shocker to them.

So, it's situational.  A friend of mine wanted to build a super-eco friendly green house, and he heard of an architect that specialized in that type of building.  The guy showed up to the meeting in a pimped out Hummer H2.  Uh, you're marketing yourself to environmentally conscious clients and you're driving an H2?
No place I'd rather be...

mmret, it seems like you really like it. I say go for it, and take the depreciation hit in 2 years, after the warranty expires.   :)

CPO C63's will be in the 30k range then.  ;D

My GTi works the same way. Maybe its a German thing?
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

The owner may not care but the persons "above" them may care. That's what may cause the problem.

Useless information for completeness / OCD.

The CLK was driven by a Toronto lawyer. He will turn 50 this year. Financed $58k on it. Wonder if there was a downpayment/trade as I believe even in the US a base model CLK550 stickered for $56k.

Maybe I will email him and see how much he traded it for / if he ever had much trouble with it.

E-mail him first.

Someone who bought a car that we had traded in e-mailed us *after* she had bought it and overpaid for it.... :(
