Correct me if I'm wrong:

A Front wheel drive car transmission is properly referred to as a transaxle, and the transmission fluid acts as differential fluid.

Can do, does do sometimes but their is no reason why the differential can not be designed to run on a separate oil.

Keep up with the storyline airbalancer Tongue

We need two cars because of the Mrs. work requirements. Sold the Camry to buy two used cars.
We've been Zipping around town in Zipcars. We quite fancy the Mini.
I can live with a winter beater for a while. In 2 years time when the winter beater is about to die, I hope to have saved enough to buy a new-ish car.

Intergrated into the transmission, shares the same fluid.

Flush or just change - that is quite a conundrum for me because I have owned a car this old before.

Based on what you are saying. Avoid flushing the fluids, just change them.

I am planning to change the oil and transmission fluid immediately.

Next up, Brake Fluid, Power steering fluid, Engine Coolant, all these before winter.

What about differential oil?

Other than regular oil changes DON"T DO A THING.  You are just asking for trouble.

You knowingly bought a disposable car, so just use it that way.

On second thought, check the air cleaner.  Might be the original.  Wink
