I had a fairly "base" 2010 X3 as a loaner for a few hours when I had my wife's Cooper S in for service. There's no doubt you're paying a fair bit just for the logo with this vehicle. Hopefully the 2011 will be more of a real BMW.

US pricing came out today.
$37,625 for xDrive28i
$41,925 for xDrive35i

http://www.bmwblog.com/2010/10/13/bmw-announces-a-base-price-of-37625-for-the-all-new-2011-bmw-x3/
Since the X3 is built in the US we should not have worry about the 6% duty
or will headoffice put 6% on the price so they can discount it later ???

It's called "double" the holdback.  :P

My guess is:
CAD$43,500 for xDrive28i
CAD$48,500 for xDrive35i
Came out to be:
CAD$41,900 for xDrive28i
CAD$46,900 for xDrive35i

Pretty aggressive base prices, but once you add the packages it's a different story.
2011 MB C300 4Matic (Tenorite Grey)
2010 MB C300 4Matic (Iridium Silver)

I am not sure the difference of what comes standard in the US and Canada but if they are similar in standard items then after the 6% duty there is no advantage to importing from the US (unless the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar) because of the hassle and decrease in future trade in value.

Is the free maintenance transferable to Canada for a BMW purchased in the USA?

And neither do the Canadian vehicles get free maintenance, when they are imported to the USA.

On top of that US vehicles may need KM/h speedos retrfitted in them to be Canadian road legal.

Based on what I've seen, what comes standard is very often different between the US and Canadian models.

At least for my 335i, the standard material increased in the Canada models and decreased in the US ones when the dollar climbed.

Most of the features in the US "Cold weather package" is standard for CAD.

Another vehicle w/o manual option. WTF, can't you North Americans drive?

There seem to be fewer and fewer manual options every year.

Need to move to Europe

In the near future, all Canadian luxury vehicles will have Automatic and AWD standard.

Inside the X3 grows more luxurious than the current car, which has steadily improved in the first generation from the original drab plastic interior.
