Japan has it's own Obama! ;D
.....

It's the same Obama...and he is very powerful as he had influence all the way back in 1996!  Wow....impressive.

"The Washington Post reckons this might  “potentially widen an investigation that began with reports of sudden unintended acceleration."

So yea....the wild goose hunt continues.

Hmmm...still no word though on when the NHTSA/Congress will take action against GM for knowingly STILL selling a recalled product that's known to cause fires in a car.  Oh..and this is happening now, now in 1996...:)

It's not influencing the past...it's just chasing ghosts.  I suspect that if the NHTSA were so inclined (and they're not) that they could find slow reporting/burrying of minor technical issues with ALL manufacturers...including the domestics.  I mean..look at GM still selling a recalled product.  But they have an IPO coming out, and the government has a stake in them..so turn a blind eye.

**EDIT**  the NHTSA received a whopping 168 complaints about steering issues in Toyotas... ::)

Well of course rrocket! And it proves that Toyota was never that special after all, so there. ;)

Like I said a few weeks ago enjoy your ordinary brand, I enjoy mine and I like many other.  As for Toyota they simply do not give me a chubby, maybe some day..........

Well I don't think the vast majority of their cars (or Nissans..or anybody's cars) give anyone a chubby.  The "ordinary" IS line is great, the 370Z and GT-R are great.  The rest??  Not so much.

Damn, rrocket. I was waiting for you to drag GM into this. I am still waiting for comments on your Olds Alero. You usually drag that into any threads that are negative to Toyota..... :)

NHTSA comes clean (sort of):

NHTSA Confirms That Toyota Black Box Data Points To Driver Error… Again

This isn’t so much a news item as a “Congress finally figured it out” item. A preliminary report by the National Research Council, recently revealed to congress, shows that of 58 Toyota “black box” event data recorders from crashes which occurred during the recall scandal

35 showed that at the moment of impact, the driver hadn’t depressed the brake pedal at all. Fourteen more showed partial braking, while nine showed the brake depressed at the “last second” before the crash.

There were a handful of other results where the brake was pressed early and let go, or in which both the gas and brake pedals were pressed at the same time. There also was one case of pedal entrapment by a floor mat.

In five cases, the electronic recording device failed to work.

The WSJ notes that the investigation is ongoing, and that no official conclusions have been drawn, but that the finding vindicates an earlier report for which the WSJ had taken mysterious flack.
