Do we know what the Toyota policy is for supplier liability? I recall Toyota trying to throw CTS under the bus over the sticky pedal issue.

Funny you should mention the Civic. Just this morning I saw a late model Civic on the side of the road with a collapsed front driver's side suspension (broken spring or separated ball joint?). Rocker panel almost on the ground. My co-worker with the 2009 Civic coupe has had a number of issues, mostly minor, but she's disappointed in light of Honda's reputation. I am too because I generally like Honda (questionable styling and snooty dealers aside) and recommended the car to her.

Chrysler recalls more than 25,000 vehicles with CTS pedals

DETROIT (Reuters) -- Chrysler Group is recalling more than 25,000 Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass vehicles to address the risk that accelerator pedals could become stuck and cause unintended acceleration, the automaker said today.

The recall comes five weeks after U.S. safety regulators opened an investigation into potentially sticky accelerator pedals in Chrysler vehicles, based on five consumer complaints.

Chrysler said in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that some of its 2007 model-year Caliber and Compass vehicles, manufactured between March and May of 2006, might have been equipped with faulty accelerator pedals.

CTS Corp. made the pedals involved in the recall. Elkhart, Ind.-based CTS is also the supplier of pedals involved in Toyota Motor Corp.'s January recall of more than 2 million vehicles.

Chrysler said the accelerator pedal for the Caliber and Compass vehicles is a "completely different" design and manufactured with different tooling than the pedals involved in Toyota's recall.

Chrysler also said its recalled vehicles are equipped with a brake override system, which allows the engine controller to reduce power and stop the car when both the brake and the accelerator are depressed.

Red herring. Chrysler isn't pointing the finger at CTS.

We've never owned a car with a brake override system.  Never needed it.  Will never need it.  Everyone in our household has the wherewithal to press the correct pedal at the correct time.

We've owned cars with tiny foot boxes, tightly spaced pedals, and floor loading pedals and never had a problem.

No place I'd rather be...

I know a girl that had a UA with a Matrix and she came within inches of her garage door with both feet on the brakes and the car redlined :o  She needed overide big time.  Many manufacturers have done it, but not Toyota, all part of cost cutting and decontenting their cars;)

The "big 3" needed to do something, if these stats are true.
Total recalls over since 1990.
Not warranty true but still work they have done twice.

GM all brands                            3900
Ford Merc Lincoln                       2736
Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Jeep   2474
Toyota Lexus                             932
Honda Acura                              909
Nissan Infinity                            715
