White Paint
« on: May 29, 2010, 10:46:15 am »
Buying a new vehicle this coming week and the colour of choice that  the MRS likes is white and I do to. Being white are there any issues with showing possible acid rain marks, small dark spots that would normally not be seen by darker colours such as silver or grey. I have heard if the car is shipped by rail it could  possibly be covered in rail dust by the time it gets to the dealer. In the case of the vehicle we are thinking of is made in Oakville so no issue for rail dust. But what about other contaminates etc. Is white a colour that requires a lot of maintenance, I always do a paint scrub, polish and wax twice a year so would I have to do more than that to keep it looking nice. Those with white vehicles would you get white again.
Thanks

Tree sap is almost invisible on white paint until you get sticky bits on your hands.

I might get white again... it would depend on what I buy.   The GTI is the first car I have owned that is white and it certainly makes a difference to the internal temp even with the classic GTI black interior.

If I were to buy another GTI probably white again ( I had two red GTIs in the past). Another BMW or an M-B then silver.  A Fiesta or Focus then fluorescent green or orange.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I sold a black Acura and bought a white Mazda 3. I thought no color could be harder to maintain than black but white gives it a run for the money.

I live in Montreal. It looks real bad in the winter mess. Summer is better.

When cleaning every little bit of road tar shows up. Not sure if I would even know it was there with other colors. This spring my car was covered in tiny little brown specs. It looked like little rust spots and I panicked knowing Mazda rusting problems. It turned out to be something just splattered on the car. Took a took a hell of a lot of elbow grease to get it off. I have know idea what it was.

When waxing it is hard to see the haze from applied wax so it is hard to tell where you still have work to do.

I know down the road when rust appears on my car that it will stick out like a sore thumb.

Bottom line is it looks sharp when clean (I find it is the best color for my Mazda 3) but it is a pain to maintain. Not sure if I would go white again.

I hate white cars. They look dull in my opinion and are a pain to keep clean. If you want a blend in colour then silver is much better.

TBH I found white cars the easier to keep clean. It's black and dark colours that drive me crazy trying to keep them clean. White and Silver IMHO are the easy to keep clean.

It really depends what white to be honest.  There's a local S2000 in white that absolutely glows it's so white.  But yea, I know what you mean.  Some of the cheaper cars looks kinda blah in white...

No white cars available in the trim and model, switching to silver which was our second choice, Thanks to all for your inputs,
