4-cyl trucks popular

We can still get those?

Even if available, I wouldn't figure that the 4-cyl could be optioned with the more 'consumer desirable'  trim levels (i.e crew cab, 4x4).

Off the top of my head, there's not a whole lot of 4-cyl selection

Range/Mazda - ok.., but not in 4x4
Canyon/Colorado - I think they got a 4-cyl... 'big engine' is a 5-banger
Tacoma - Can get a 4-cycle Access Cab 4x4 I believe
Frontier - No avail.
Dakota - Not avail.
Equator - Not avail.

Where are these sales coming from?   Work use 2wd regular cabs?  Dirt cheap Rangers?

The big changes recently are the 4 cyl Ranger being available in an extended cab, and the Tacoma 4X4 being available as a four. Neither was possible last year IIRC.

Except for good fuel economy, there isn't a good reason to buy a 4 cylinder truck IMO. My 3.0 litre 6 cylinder B-series 4x2 truck is pretty gutless. However, my 4.0 litre 6 cylinder Ranger 4x4 truck has decent power, but is a pig on gas.

Davidy; It really depends on gearing with that engine. My 2009 Ranger Sport 4.0L/5spd/3.55:1 feels slower than my father's 2002 Ranger EDGE 3.0L/5spd/4.10:1. The 2.3L Duratech with 4.10:1 is actually faster than the 3.0L same gearing due to torque bands and gets and extra 10 IMPG. If it hadn't been for my wife 23' Sailboat, we'd have had a 2.3L/Reg cab. Unfortunately we needed the towing capacity of the V-6.
