car keyed - what works best
« on: May 22, 2010, 11:59:08 am »
Someone keyed my car on the drivers side (black Maxda 3 sport - 2008.5). The scracth is very visable but I dont think it is overly deep. Other than bringing it in the the dealership for repair, are there any good products out there that would help. I cant really afford a paint job!

Sorry to hear that... someone keyed my car last summer (I'd only had it about two months) and it's just the most frustrating thing in the world.

You can try Meguiars Scratch X or a similar product, but they only work if the scratch is really minor. If it's through the clear coat, then you need to get the area repainted.

Insurance would cover vandalism, but you'd probably be out your deductible. :S

If you drive over the perpetrator repeatedly does money fall out of his pockets like in GTA? :)

Sorry to hear.

Condolences - went through the same thing when the car was 2 months old....door and fender, $1,000.  Mostly labour 'cause they don't tape anything anymore, they remove bumpers, handles, trim, etc etc.

My nail could catch on the scratch, so it's unrepairable for DIY leasing-return purposes.

You could try this langka.com . I've got the kit,but have not tried it yet. The TSX hasn't got a chip or scratch in 19 months or 35,000km :D. The thing that I like over the drcolorchip is that you can use it with any car you have. Because you supply the factory touch-up paint.  With drcolorchip, you have to use their paint. Want do another car you have to get another kit.

What works best?  A baseball bat to the ass-hat that did it.  Man, this burns me up hearing about stuff like this.  You don't have nice stuff?  Tough titties, don't take it out on someone else's!

Sorry to hear it, Silver (and sorry I don't have anything constructive to add).

How do you do it?  Seriously, how do you keep from other people damaging your property (car).  I am (I'll admit it) totally anal about my stuff - I park way far away from the entrance of stores and will, if I have to, search out the most expensive cars in the parking lot to park next to thinking they'll be more careful of their own property and therefore not hit my car.  I do all of this and more and I feel like my car has a target on it!

Must be Murphy's law, if it didn't give 2 cents about my car it'd probably never get a single ding?

To the OP, sorry to hear about your car, I suggest you look into a professional detailer in your area - they can do AMAZING things with scratches and dents at a fraction of the cost of a bodyshop.

I've been very lucky with this car. It parks in the garage every night. No parks beside it at work. When shopping etc... I always do pretty much what you do. I got some hail damage last summer while on holidays. I took it to
"The Dent Clinic" here in Edmonton. They did an AWESOME job getting all the dents out.

This reply was from a similar thread on the Genesis Coupe forum, makes my blood boil... WHY DO PEOPLE DO THIS?!?!?

Quote
I can relate, I got the car for about 2 weeks, took it to work. The parking lot is a majority american cars with the few Hondas and Hyundais etc. I come out during lunch to get a phone charger, and find a guy in a new mustang opening his door multiple times into the door of my car. How many times do you actually find the person in the act of doing it?

I run over (doing the best to restrain myself), and his only words are "You should have bought an American car!". WTF. Why are you denting a new mustang to dent a new genesis? retard. His dumb american car insurance got to pay for my non-american repair job.

Anyways..point to the story, people will do anything they can to ruin a nice car. Our cars are jagoff magnets and it will continue to stay that way for a couple years I"m assuming. However, you never see someone open a door into a vette.

Sorry to hear.

All things in real life work like GTA! :D

So if you want a new Ferrari, simply dial the right number on your phone and it will fall out of the sky. Still looking for that #....one day.

Take your fingernail and pass it over the scratch.  If you feel the scratch with your fingernail, it's through the clear coat and will not be fixable with a polish.  If you don't feel anything with your fingernail, it's fixable with a polish.  You can try fixing it by hand with scratchX, however results by hand are typically marginal at best.  A local detailer can remove it by machine no problem.  Best of luck getting it fixed.
