My neighbour just bought a new Tacoma in circus clown blue. I love it when he tells me he bought it because it's the best truck on the market. Oh yeah, he works for toyota, that explains the mental instability.

Well...apart from the fact the Tacoma IS the best small/mid-size truck on the market.   ::)

Does that make it the best truck? Hardly. Toyota mentality at its finest.

OK lets look at the competition:

Dodge Dakota (getting worse since 2004!)
GMC Canyon (Inline 5 for the win)
Nissan Frontier (Maybe can go toe to toe with the Tacoma?)
Ford Ranger (Truck of the year in 92)

Which one is better?

I said truck, I'm including full size trucks because that is what my neighbour was referring to.Not just mid-size trucks. All trucks. Hence my statement of mental instability.

In that case it is the Tundra although the Tacoma would be a close second.

If you're considering ALL trucks of any size available to the general mass-market consumer, I don't think the Tundra would be the best IMO.  It lacks the configuration (door/bed length/motor) options that the domestics offer - and let's face it - it's maximum towing/hauling capacity is far lower than some of the domestics if configured properly.

Two things I know about Tacomas:

1. At least 75% of drivers do not turn their headlamps on at night.  These trucks can be spotted by the glow of their two amber DRLs.

2. Tacoma drivers, for the most part, are rivaling Ram drivers for aggressive, tailgating behaviour.

Nothing like making huge sweeping unscientific stereotype statements.

And your point would be?  If you have no sense of humour, :censor: off.

Would laughing at you right now count as a sense of humor?

I'd say it's close between the Tundra and F-150 for best overall but mid-sized I think the Taco is pretty much ahead of the game although the Frontier may not be too bad, the Titan's reliability makes me question it.

From what I've heard I thought the new Dodge Ram would be on top right now.

Why?  I wouldn't touch anything Dodge/Chrysler IMO.  The RAM is okay but no thanks, wouldn't even be on my list.

- and let's face it - it's maximum towing/hauling capacity is far lower than some of the domestics if configured properly.

? The average Tundra has a far higher tow rating than the average F150, a side effect of Toyota not having a 3/4 ton. Every Tundra sold in Canada has (IIRC) a rating above 10,000 lbs, while Fords start around 5000. At the top the difference is only 500lbs, which some have ascribed to 'magic spring dust' at Ford, as the F150's max tow rating 'magically' raised after the Tundra beat it in 2007.

http://www.ford.ca/app/fo/en/trucks/f150.do?modelYear=C00

Ironically the best towing machine in a recent comparison test was the Ram, which has the lowest rating of all, at least until Dodge wised up to magic spring dust itself.

Payload ratings are similar with trucks of the same configuration. Ford does have a special order single cab model with a frame twice as thick and extra heavy springs that has double the payload of anyone else, but no one buys it.

I was referring to the Tundra vs. all other domestics (ie. F250, F350 ect, from other makers)....

There is no way anyone can argue that the Tundra even approaches the domestic manufacturers with regards to cab/bed/engine configurations - in this regard the Tundra takes a back seat to its competitors IMO.

That's good. I wouldn't touch anything made by Toyota or Honda. To each his own.
