Girlfriend's new-to-her Z4
« on: May 09, 2010, 08:15:42 pm »
Everyone likes pictures.

2007 Z4 3.0si, auto, prem pkg, electric roof, not sure what other options.
US import bought from a dealer in the GTA. Still under warranty for a year and a bit.
25k miles / 40k kms.

Will be driven year round but obviously the TSX will be preferred in the winter. :o
Anybody have some 5x120 17" BMW rims for sale?

-Great fun, with all the tradeoffs one would expect of a car like this.
-Wonderful steering in the corners, but kind of sketchy in a straight line. Lacks on-center feel at high speeds, which takes some getting used to. Overall its not as bad as the Camry I drove last year but still pretty annoying.
-Tramlines like a mofo.
-Haven't had the chance to see if it really does 0-100 in 5.7 seconds yet. :(
-Body roll? Whats that?
-Throttle tip-in in regular D mode is super soft. Lots of noise but not much movement. Takes some getting used to vs. the TSX which seems more eager to get going. SD is another matter.

-Electric roof is great, super fast.
-Really poor roof-up rearward visibility (I've decided to back into all parking spots from now on).

-Fairly noisy, especially from the sides, and the psgr side A-pillar (I think) has a rattle. Yes, I knew about this before we bought it.
-Ride is pretty harsh, runflats and all.

-Trunk isn't half bad but the cabin storage is abysmal. I think the glovebox will fit a few boxes of tic-tacs but that's all. Roof doesn't seem to take up any meaningful trunk space at all, which is nice.
-No HIDs. Seriously? I didn't even bother checking because I just assumed that a 2007 BMW, and the big-engined one no less, would have them standard. D'oh.
-Radio is great. Bluetooth thing is awful to use though.
-Still has some BMW Assist left on it, although technically it doesn't transfer over the border. Maybe I'll just pretend I'm on vacation in Canada..?

Nice! Very elegant color combination. Z4's from the States are dirt cheap.

Great car! I loved my Z4, although with the smaller engine mine was more of a cruiser than a sports car, the 3.0 is definitely the one to get.  And yes the suspension set up definitely tramlines like a mofo.

Are those 18" wheels? they looks smaller than the ones I had?

The best thing about the Z4 is that you are nearly sat over the rear wheels, drifting is easy and fun!

Congrats to the gf and you, mmret, love the color... ;D ;D ;D

Consider swapping the RFTs for regular tires to help with the tramlining. Spending some time on BMW Z forums may give you some answers to that problem.

Very nice.

I agree, I hated those frickin' tires!

And why can't other manufacturers do those little knee pads to rest your leg against, I would have killed for some of those today!

Also get those number plate covers looked at too, they look a little cloudy.

Turbo Bob:
Good to know the tramlining isn't a problem with our car specifically at least :P
They're 17s, its the non-sport package. Couldn't imagine the ride with 18" RFTs although I wouldn't mind having the sport button (reduces the EPS assistance, feels more direct).

Speaking of knees it claims to have knee airbags on both sides. Which probably explains why the glovebox is such a joke.

Ovr:
Yup, leaning toward non RFT replacements. The current tires still have some decent tread though it seems so I'll we'll use them until they're done.

Railton:
Yes, most of it is Aspen Woods but some are from another builder (don't remember which). To be honest I don't think the house was built super well or anything.

All: Merci beaucoup!  :hello:

Your girlfriend is a lucky girl!

Congrats!

Lacks on-center feel at high speeds, which takes some getting used to.

I found that to be true on a 335i (and SA had a similar experience), don't think it's the car, that's the way they make them. On the 3 series it was pretty bad actually, I'd think the Z's would have more feel.
