Ovr, he is technically right :P Not much fun though I will admit.

The ironic part is that you're a former financial adviser and he's named "kardood".

I had this debate with my girlfriend. She bought a Z4.

So you did end up trading in the Civic? :)

She didn't want to trade it (the guy offered $10k only) so I'm still trying to flog the thing.

Spending on the vehicles is money down the drain..

You are kidding, right.....??  ??? ::) ::)

The sad truth is, it really is money down the drain, but then what hobby isn't. Buy a plane or a boat and although they may hold their value, their operating costs are way up there.

One is best off buying a fun car that has hit the plateau. If I spent the same money that I spent on my Carrera on a current vehicle, I'll have lost at least 25% in the first year or two.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

Actually, I mis-read the OP a little - I thought it was a choice between a) mortgage, b) ford, c) bmw....

But, it sounds like he's paid down the mortgage a little already and now just wants to "burn" some cash.  Good thing is  all the things he's suggested will burn it in no time...

Ya, well, I wonder at times.

The house can wait.  How 'bout a used motorcycle?  Buy one for...I dunno...$4,000...and if you sell it at the end of the summer for $2,000, then you're all good!!
If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.

Why on earth would you spend thousands putting shiny bits on a rusty truck FFS?

Spend it on the bmw to make it lighter.
Power is how fast you hit the wall... Torque is how far you take the wall with you!

BMW = bite my wallet.   :)

You could stick the $2K into an RRSP or RESP (if you have kids or grandkids).
