More Toyota recalls
« on: April 16, 2010, 08:32:13 pm »
 :-X

TORONTO, ON – April 16, 2010 – Toyota Canada has announced a voluntary recall campaign affecting approximately 270,000 first and second generation 2WD Toyota Sienna vehicles where the frequent use of road salts may result in excessive corrosion of the spare tire carrier assembly. With continued and prolonged exposure, there is the potential for the carrier cable to fail and the spare tire could become separated from the vehicle causing a crash or become a hazard for following vehicles.

Toyota Canada is asking owners of affected vehicles to bring their vehicles to their local dealership for an inspection in order to assess the condition of the spare tire carrier assembly and the potential for separation. All-wheel drive vehicles are not impacted by this voluntary recall campaign as they are equipped with run-flat tires in place of a spare.

All affected owners will be formally notified by first-class mail, beginning in May, 2010 concerning this campaign. Once the remedy has been developed, customers will be re-notified and advised of the remedy availability.

The 2011 Sienna is not affected by this safety recall, and no other Lexus or Toyota vehicles are involved.

AND

TORONTO, ON – April 16, 2010 – Toyota Canada has announced a voluntary safety recall affecting approximately 4,774 units of the Toyota “tray-type” floor mat sold as an optional accessory for certain 2007-2010 Tundra, 2008-2010 Highlander and 2008-2010 Highlander Hybrid vehicles. When the “tray-type” floor mat is unsecured or not properly installed in the driver’s position, there is a potential risk for the accelerator pedal to get stuck in the wide open position.

The optional accessory “tray-type” floor mat was sold and distributed in Canada only – it is not available in any other market.

At this time, Toyota is asking customers to remove the optional accessory “tray-type” floor mat from the driver’s position and not replace it with any other floor mat. Customers may also contact their Toyota dealer for assistance.

Toyota Canada reminds all of our customers that only one floor mat – either the Toyota carpeted floor mat or a genuine Toyota accessory floor mat – that is compatible with the vehicle should be installed in the driver’s position using the proper installation instructions.

All affected customers will be notified by mail and provided instructions on how to obtain a reimbursement.

That's seem to be common problem with vehicles that suspend their spare underneath.   Good idea not to follow too closely.

As part of our spring ritual, I took the spare down to check its pressure.  Cable worked fine, looked OK but I did not look at how its attached to the winder part.

That's seem to be common problem with vehicles that suspend their spare underneath.   Good idea not to follow too closely.

I have seen this happen with p/u's of all brands, so its not surprising its on the Sienna as well.

Another tough week for Toyota   :-\

Another day and yet another safety recall for Toyota - for rust causing a safety isssue. Where is the smokeing gun link to the PEW team or the Obama team or the Oprah team or Seseame Street to this recall? There is NO way Toyota could screw up ANOTHER one of its vehicles.... SABOTAGE?

I have become an artic because I am now of the belief that no car company can really make sooooo many CRAPPY unsafe products in such a short period of time! No way.

Toyota you still have us artics here to make sure the good word gets out - an unsafe poorly designed Toyota is still much better than ANY GM product.

Thanks Toyota on behalf of the artic team.
blah blah blah Toyota blah blah blah I feel your pain; you've got a GM, it's worth squat and you owe on it.

Dude, if the displacment is EXACT, it's not "all new".  The intake is different, the VVT is now on both sets of valves  In the automotive world "all new" often means somewhat different

More and more posters are finding this forum to be tedious and many of us are extremely tired of the endless bashing, be it against Toyota, GM, Japanese cars, NA cars, etc. Some posters only post to bash, never a good discussion or exhange. Others on here are Sierra Club wannabes with little to no car interest. Go away, this is not an environmental advocacy site. This USED to be a car enthusiasts site, no more.

No wonder many are giving it up. James, please note.

I agree. I'm here because I'm interested in cars. Some I like, some I don't. I also find it interesting to discuss the hows and whys of the decisions car companies make regarding design, pricing, marketing and  image. I too am pretty sick of the fanboys mindlessly either attacking or promoting a particular brand.

I don't mind the promoting part. That is what a fan is supposed to do. But the constant attacks get tedious.

I've always wondered about those "hang the tire under the car" assemblies.  I was following an old beat-up Ranger and the spare tire under the bed was visibly swinging.  I changed lanes.

The floor mat thing was a little surprising, because that exact problem has been in the news for what, a year now?  What took that long with the recall on these particular unsecured accessory mats?

Be careful, Wing, the artics and their ilk will be accusing you of being a troll and calling for you to boot yourself from the forum for posting such obviously inflammatory information. :)

Not only that, but man...they can be a PITA to get to if you need to change a tire.  Helped a couple of times trying to lower the spare tire only to have the mechanism rusted or fouled.

Well you can't blame user error on the road salt issue...but you sure can on the "unsecured floor mat" for the 2nd voluntary recall!

So does that mean he should only be deducted half a point?  ;D
