Ford had worked on and tweaked the Mustang for a long time, and they know what is needed. GM & Chrysler only spend a few years on it, but I don't they have a clear Goal other than Retro look, and V8 Power.

Thumbs up for Hyundai's outstanding job on the GC.

Saw a Camaro parked next to an Olds 98 at the mall parking lot, the new Chevy's rear end needs to see Jenny Craig.

Chevy and Chrysler set out to make new Camaros and Challengers. That is what they set out to do and that is what they got. While the Challenger is a very different kind of vehicle, the Camaro has been VERY competitive with the Mustang in all the tests I have seen. It has won some and lost some.

Then of course, it won the sales race. :)

...for model year 2010.  Let's see how model year 2011 goes.  Considering the new engines in the Mustang, I think we're going to see VERY different results.

In the recent thread comparing the Genesis to the Stang, Challenger and Camaro, a few people responded to the GC winning the comparo by saying "well sure, it's three muscle cars against a sports car."  That's crap I say.
.....
So, I guess I'm calling out Chevy and Dodge to stop hiding behind the styling and the muscle car excuse and make performance cars appropriate for today -- not simply big-engined retro-throwbacks to appease some dinosaurs too old to drive a "sports car" now anyway.

Ah yes...the Hyundai Genesis love-in runs so deep that people see the need to defend it even when it wins a comparo test.

I see these just as different approaches to their marketplace.  They are obviously successful from a sales perspective (Camaro Mustang)...and "a few" people around here think that's justification enough.

(sigh) Come on now, Mr. Grumpypants, I believe it was spelled out pretty clearly in the original post that this isn't about the Genesis coupe, as much as egging on  car makers to not hide behind the 'muscle car' label and make quality performance cars (like Ford is doing).  The Genesis was merely the most recent example that prompted the original post.

I think Ovr50 helped clarify that the muscle car name is no longer applicable to most of these sports coupes and I agree.

And Snowman, don't worry about my driving... I do my requisite 25,000/yr.  By the way, how many posts do you have (quality vs. quantity  ;)).

Railton... I've got 12-straight-14-hour-shoot-days coming up next week so don't worry, I'll still get my work done.  ;)

Jeff: Please accept my apologies for my rant as it cast a big net and I do not consider you part of the problem on this site. My post/day rate in now inline with my level of sanity :)

I'm just loving how a Hyundai product keeps popping up in these discussions.  This would have been unheard of three or four years ago.  Gotta love it.  :)

Me too!  ;D

I agree with GD though, as soon as the V6 models lost against the GC people said it's because they were muscle cars, not sports cars.  Well they're not, (much as the V6 cars have lots of power these days) muscle cars have a V8.

I would love to own the new V8 Mustang, it's a great car, really is. I might get a used one.  The Camaro has a WALL.E interior, and the Challenger is just too large, heavy, and poorly made.

Now if Hyundai brought out a GC with the V8 from the Genesis... now THAT would be interesting!

This whole controversial thing we blame on TB - he went and bought the Hyundai - he started it. :rofl2:

Now back to our regular rants - this really is all about diversity isn't it?

Hyundai has an application of the 2.0 at @ 275HP. It sure would be nice to see that in the GC.

^^ Better weight distribution than the bigger V6, cheaper to boot. No V8, no muscle, just a Mighty Mouse.  :)
