Quick question. Do duties have to be paid if the vehicle is not North American made, but is USED?

I believe so. I think it is 6%. There may be no duties if it is more than X years old though. The rules change from time to time. I think if it was over 15 years old, it was duty free. They may have reduced that to less years.

Call to make sure.
I Agree
You can also get away without paying 6.1% duty if the vehicle manufacturer is foreign but the vehicle is made stateside.

Edit note: Oops yes, meant to write that just didn't come out  properly.

Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos?

Now I'm  Huh. Isn't it the other way around. You can buy a foreign make car (Toyota) in the US, and as long as it is made there, pay no duty.

What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

If you car is made/assembled in NA you DO NOT pay the 6.1%.

If you Google, you can find a list of every car you do not have to pay duty on.

Also, just call the border and ask. RIV is also an excellent resource and you should start there.

With the dollar at par - duty isn't going to hurt your savings too much (overall)
