As far as HOV lanes are concerned, IMO they should use the OUTSIDE (right) lane so there's no confusion about where the passing lane is. That's one thing that Kelowna did right a couple of years ago when they instituted HOV lanes, much better than the left-sided HOV lanes in Vancouver which scare the bejeezus out of me.

If I was legally driving in a left-sided HOV lane and someone was pushing me to let them pass, I'd stay put and let THEM move over to the passing lane. Changing lanes to the right with some speed-crazed jackass on your tail is asking for trouble.

Ironically I'd bet the "speed-crazed jackass" is probably an advocate of "thou shalt keep right except to pass", who rightfully hates left-lane hogs but didn't know what those funny signs over his passing lane meant.

Does Ontario already have Graduated Licensing for Automobile Drivers

It does, but how many driving tests are there? I think only one to the final licence.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

There are still impatient truck drivers and there are certainly a number that do not have speed limiters...unless of course my speedometer has intermittent bursts of inaccuracy.

It can be a problem in a car to exit the expressway with the trucks all doing 105km/h as the trucks tailgate each other not leaving a safe gap for a car to get between them and then do it again to get to the exit.

Simple solution. Don't wait till the last minute to change lanes, ensure you are in the rightmost lane well in advance of the exit.

Well ok but then you can easily spent 5km being tailgated by 40 tons of truck.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I think you are exaggerating, a km is almost always more than enough to find a spot to safely change lanes. If you put your right turn signal on, somebody will eventually let you in.

The logical conclusion one draws from your statement is that it is too dangerous to drive in the middle and right lanes because you will be tailgated.

Yes, much better to have a line of 20 annoyed car drivers tailgating behind the truck than have one beige Corolla driver being scared in front of the truck..  ;D

Why are these twenty idiots sitting in the middle lane fuming when they can easily pass the trucks by using the passing (left) lane. That is why it is called a PASSING lane. Use it.

This brings me back to the point I was making with my RIGHT LANE LUNACY thread. People drive too much to the right, even when it is not appropriate and it is better for everybody that you move into the middle or left lane.

Well George, hard for the 20 idiots to pass the truck when they are all in the left lane behind the speed-limited truck that can barely pass anything.

BTW, in the world outside Toronto, most of the highways are still only 2 lane.  Out here in the boonies you can spend lots of time stuck behind trucks "whale-racing" as I call it. Makes for frustration and people end up dangerously passing trucks on the right.

Being frustrated is no excuse for dangerous maneuvers. We all have to deal with frustrating situations, hopefully one is mature enough to deal with them sensibly..

No, the conclusion is that trucks should not have speed limiters. Then those who wish to pass others would do so reasonably quickly most of the time ( not all the time)

Well, speed limiters are here to stay and a good thing too. Wishing it to go away isn't going to make it disappear. Deal with reality.

Speed limiters were introduced by regulation by the Provincial government and could be removed just as quickly by a future government.  I agree that they probably won't be removed.

Thanks for  the fortune-cookie philosophy, too bad it does nothing to alleviate the problem as people are often anything but sensible.
