Wife's new bike and some vacation pics
« on: April 13, 2010, 01:09:54 am »
Back in January, I went down to the local bike shop to pick up some parts for winter maintenance on my bike and wound up coming home with a new bike for my wife. They had taken one of their left-over 2009 KTM 200 XC-Ws and lowered the suspension for shorter riders. As soon as I saw it on the floor, I knew it would be perfect for her!

We picked it up in early March, then took it down to Utah for some riding over the Easter holidays. The bike is a dream - I'm almost jealous! I swear that little two-stroke has more grunt right off idle than my 650cc four-stroke. Takes off like a scalded cat, too.

Anyway, here's some pics:

Me jealous....

That's okay - I was jealous of your France trip.  :)

We also took our road bikes down to Moab, but they never left the back of the truck. The weather was perfect for dirt biking, but a little cool and windy for road riding. There's some nice road rides down there, though.

May as well add a pic from last year's trip:

Is that a Specialized Ruby she is riding?

BTW we are leaving for the Spanish island of Mallorca for the last week of May and the first of June. Nice road biking place it seems. I'll post pics...

Good eye - it's an '09 S-Works Ruby. She adores that bike...

Looking forward to the Mallorca pics!

The Roval wheels helped me to see it was a Specialized...

My wife's bike is a 08 Ruby Expert. A few upgrades on it, the best one being the Dura Ace Carbon wheels. I've got a Tarmac Pro with the same wheels.

I have a set of Tubeless on order, can't wait to try that out on a road bike.

It's funny you mention the Roval wheels, because they weren't the ones that came with the bike. It was supposed to come with Mavic R-SYS wheels, but those were recalled just before my wife picked up her bike. We were about to leave for Moab, so the shop gave her a loaner set of Rovals in the meantime.

Mavic did get the R-SYS thing sorted out eventually, and that's what is on her bike now.

I thought I already replied to this thread but I guess not. Great pic SirCivic!  Looks like you had a great time but then again, how can you not in Moab as its such an amazing place to play outdoors.

I use to run tubeless tires when I mountain biked, I wonder if they are now making them for road bikes?

Yes they are available for road bikes now. (Not tubular or sewn on, real tubeless) http://www.crc-cycles.com/v2/product.php?id_product=851

I've got a set on order, bought on eBay for half the price asked at the local shop. I've read very good reviews of the tubeless system, and Pro teams are starting to use them in some events like Roubaix.

R-SYS are gorgeous wheels, I have been told they are quite stiff, is that the case?

She loves them, but I've never tried them on my bike so can't comment on the stiffness. I'm 200lbs, so the carbon spokes scare me a little bit.  :-\
