New summer tires for my Mazda 3. Goodyear vs Hercules
« on: March 26, 2010, 01:45:57 pm »
I know that some people might say that neither of these tires are the greatest, but let me explain to you what I am looking for. Long tread life, quiet ride, doesn't have to have good tread in the winter since I have snows. My car already has over 200000 km's on it, but I would like to get it to 300000. I don't need the best tires, but I am looking for what I mentioned above.

The two that I am currently looking at are:  Hercules RoadTour 655 and Goodyear Assurance FuelMax.

I think I like the looks of the Hercules a bit better, but both are new tires and neither have any reviews that I can find online. The Hercules is a bit cheaper, but I am looking for the tire that will last the longest between these two, and have the best ride.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Matt

Hercules RoadTour 655 - $116 per tire installed
Goodyear Assurance FuelMax - $123 per tire installed

Both are for 195/65/15

Goodyear is the better known brand, and there is hardly any difference on the price. All seem reasonable.

I have no experience with either tire, but did found some reviews on the Goodyear.

If Hercules are the final choice that will raise a pressing question regarding the optimum pressure. ;)

How about the Falken Ziex ZE-912? It has a UTQG of 480-A-A and is H-rated.

Sorry, it's not you....it's just an old joke about Hercules Tires that was on here several years back and it got quite funny. Sorry to have messed with your serious query, and I am afraid I do not have a serious answer for you. Others may.

Hercules Tire and General Tire fall under the Continental Tire company (Continental Tire).

My friend has Hercules and he has no complaints. Smooth and quiet but not so hot in rain according to him (2002 Honda Accord).

I have Good Year Assurance Triple Tread which would fit your car, however they cost a bit more but are really good in the rain and the tread wear rating is up to 130,000km. They are noisy initially, but after 2 weeks, either they got quiter or I just got used to them/deafer. I've had them since 2006. I had them inspected last week when swapping out my winters and the mechanic said they'll be good for this year and quite possibily 2011 before replacement is required.

In regards to tire pressure, follow the recommendation on the driver's side door sticker.

Have you got the tires yet?

Doesn't seem to be people with experience on those tires around this time.

I ended up buying the Goodyears. I liked the looks of the Hercules as well, but like some people mentioned on here, the Goodyears are the bigger name. Both tires might be pretty close, but I thought that Goodyear might have more money for R&D (therefore better tires). So far so good, but I've only put a couple hundred km's on them so I can't say anything for sure.

Thanks everyone.

Good decision on the Goodyears, if you had bought the Hercules tires you would be in a quandary about what pressure to run them at.

Hercules Tire and General Tire fall under the Continental Tire company (Continental Tire). .......

I think you need to research this a bit.  No one else seems to know this.

to capriracer: Hard to believe, but everyone on this forum doesn't know everything. Please look a the very bottom of this link. You will notice "Continental Tire Canada, Inc.". General Tire is a division of Continental Tire Canada Inc. Muhc like Good Year who owns Dunlop tires.

I was told by the company that was going to install the Hercules tires that they are made by Cooper.

one question? whats this got to do with Hercules tires? that is the brand that was being enquired about and which you included with general by stating Hercules Tire and General Tire fall under the Continental Tire company (Continental Tire). . Based on the Hercules site http://www.herculestire.com/international/aboutHercules.asp the news Hercules is part of the continental tire group is probably news to them as well as to capriracer.

I suppose though it does prove your point that not everyone on this forum knows everything. even yourself ::)
