Another Tire Size Question
« on: March 23, 2010, 09:03:42 pm »
I've been searching the net for an answer to my question.  I came across this site and it looks like a good place to find information.

I have 205 60r16 tires on my 2006 fusion.  I am looking at getting Michelin Hydroedge or Pilot exalto A/S, but my problem is they dont make that size.  Could I install 215 55r16?  I think that they will be close enough to the oem size, but I want to hear some other opinions.

they are close enough   60mph will really be 59.1 mph

see this site

or this one.   http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

they are close to the same size.  I are you set on those tires only, otherwise the Michelin Harmony is made in your stock size.  I prefer to stay with the stock size if possible.

Thanks for the input.  Its good to know that those tires will fit on my car.  I'm not set on getting those two Michelin tires, but I was looking for something that I could use as a summer tire.  Thats why I was looking at the Hydroedge.  Its not suitable for winter driving.

This is as good as place as any to post my review on the Pilot Exaltos - awful.

I just changed from my winters to these brand new tires, and I regret not getting another set of the Kumho Ecsta ASX.

The sidewalls of the Exaltos are so soft, that:

(a) I drove away from the tire store and thought I had a flat within 10 minutes of driving on them
(b) The previous excellent steering feel of my Protege5 is gone...it now feels like a Corolla  ;D
(c) In rapid left and right turns, the car wallows badly where it was very stable previously.

Not being able to test drive tires sucks...at least the store is willing to change them for me.  Lucky for me Michelin offers a 30-Day guarantee and doesn't have another Micheline tire in the size I need.
If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.
